    Hello All,

Recently I have Obtained my CDL Permit, Passed 100% on All. I have been in talks with a few schools and have been told i can travel out to them do training to get my CDL. Now I live in CT, Some of the schools are in Different states and told me I take my road test with them and take my results in a sealed envelope to my DMV for my New CDL Class A. While at my CT DMV i was told they do not do that and i had to pay a $30 advanced road test fee. My Question is, whos correct I know sometimes schools BS but i seen some shady things at the DMV as Well. Any Help would be Great.

I don't have an answer for you about the out of state stuff. However, I went to a Community College with ties to the state and I found it a much better education as well as cheaper. I had to commute but it was worth the extra gas in my pickup for the superior instruction. My trainer was impressed once I started at my company. Good luck!

It now depends on which state you got your cdl in and which state you are transfering your cdl too. Neighboring states usually will tarnsfer with no retests, but not all do so. I was going to go to a chool in MO and live in OK, and found they have easy transfer between them. Go onto your states dmv, call a cpl different dmv offices in the state as well and see if you get different answers.

I understand, I have my CDLP out of CT and was not planning on switching over to a school of attendance.

You do what the DMV says. They are issuing the license and not the training company, so, they control the game.

Yep. My state allows transfer of cdl without a retest. But I know someone that is in Illinois and he was required to retake the tests because he got his cdl in another state and they dont allow transfers for cdl licenses.

I believe...and you should inquire at your local DMV...that you have to take the test in your state. Don't quote me on it just lQQk into it before you do anything.

NO, most every state will transfer a CDL from another state without testing. However there are a few that won't.

I got mine here in SC. I know there was one guy that took the school truck to his home state of NC because that is how he had to do it.
