Picked up yesterday in NJ and running to Texas. Been putting in 75 gallons at a time and burning off fuel before I get to next scale. This load is a pain in the butt. First scale ticket was after loading, second was before refueling. Figuring fuel @8 per gallon and I'm getting 5 in the hills (surprisingly) so I can figure out how much I'll burn off before the next scale. VA did pull me on the scale last night and look at me sideways so I'll add a little less next fill up. I shouldn't have to work this hard but the customer is a good one so we go above and beyond sometimes to keep them happy.![]()

Over on my drives, under gross.

Heck, slide the trailer two holes forward and you could fill the tanks.
Wingnut1, CrappieJunkie, okiedokie and 1 other person Thank this. -
What's your steer axle rated for? If rated for 12,500 or greater and you have h rated tires slide the 5th wheel forward and you'll be golden.
Dominick253 Thanks this. -
fuel is 6 pounds a gallon. You need to burn off about 10 gallons. 50 miles youre good. Rev your engine high and keep it there till you clear dumfries or get west on 66 to 15 to Opal south or 301 east and north, etc.
Over axle is what? 10 cents a pound? 120 on drives aint nothing. But worth being stopped and checked for something else.
Slide your trailer tandems two holes. No more. Forwards towards the tractor. 1300 pounds room on the trailer. whew. two holes. it's either 500 or 750 a hole. Let's see. 500 pound holes are like 6 inches apart maybe 750's are going to be a bit more further apart. Slide that one hole.
Get a school boy chalk, mark the current hole your pins are in, then slide one hole and for god's sake stop. -
7.25 lbs per gallon is correct I think - I always went with 8 for safety margin.

Rear tandems sre all the way forward, fifth wheel at 500 pounds per notch slid as far forward as I can without being over on steers. Not my first rodeo, just sharing my situation with y'all.

Diesel fuel is 7.15 pounds per gallon , each tandem hole is 250 pounds and each 5th wheel notch is 450 pounds . Not that anyone asked .
Depending on what the freight is and how it was loaded I'd be tempted to find a small hill and roll back with a bit of firm braking to shift some weight back . OTOH , good customer or not I would of had the load reworked

If you look it up on the internet,.. consensus is 7.5lbs.
As for the OP,.. I've never been hassled over 100lbs.
Can you slide your tandems forward one pin?
Hurstx1Heavy Thanks this. -
OP is definitely just sharing info, he knows what he's doing
x1Heavy and blairandgretchen Thank this.
