Even if you’re on your permitted route the state picked out for you. If you hit a bridge, it’s still your fault .
You know the height of your load , you had to measure it for your permit. And every bridge is labeled with the height .

    and you got eyeballs.

and usually a pilot car with a pole .

Pilot car was not required for the load. I was fine. I saw the bridge in front of me was lower than my load. So I stopped and called 911. Whole bunch of state troopers checked out my paperwork and shut down the road. They told me I did everything all right (since I stoped before the bridge) and that the state messed up. Always got a read signs even if the state puts you on a route. Trust no one.

Local news is saying the driver got $210 in citations. Beyond that, I'm guessing the lawsuits start flying?

The states don't make those route surveys mandatory? They leave that up to the carrier?

I don't do oversize thats why I'm asking...

As long as you’re on your permitted route and don’t hit the bridge , your fine .
Stop . And call 911 and ask for them to send an officer out to assist you backing up to a safe place to exit the interstate while you wait for a corrected permit from the state.
99.9% of cops are happy to assist, if you call them BEFORE you hit the bridge .

I believe any state that requires a route survey, the route survey must be done before and the survey turned in with the application.

Each state sets its own height at which a survey must be done. Any where in the northeast, the height set is pretty low.

Paperwork for an assist is easier than paperwork for an accident
