You don't have to pay $500. Just stay away from the big chains...seek out the single location fuel stops...they are out there. I use 'em almost exclusively, and most of the time, the fuel is even less expensive than it is at the chains. You'll have to buy your own fuel, though, because the best fuel stops don't take the big boy's fuel cards.

The point of O/O only truck stops, is that Successful O/O's are a step above the rest....They deserve better than having to deal with pizz and trash filled potholed lots....

part of this topic was thrown around once before in a thread titled (From the Desk) it was basically a worker at a mom and pop truck stop ranting about all the stuff that drivers do.. alot of drivers agreed with what was said, but alot, and i mean ALOT got upset at the fact that the truck stop charged to park.. people were telling stories about how they'd park for the nite and then someone would knock on the door to accept payment and the drivers would yell, scream, and hit em..

i wouldn't mind paying, but i'm pretty sure having a member ship to a truck stop doesn't mean that there wont be pizz or turds, or blocked fuel isles.. that's all driver related.. it may only help with the facilities (cleaner bathrooms, no pot holes, more pumps).

just cause it's only open to o/o doesn't mean an o/o want leave a none apple juice bottle filled to the brim in the parking spot. that has nothing to do with the type of driver they are (o/o, l/o, co) that's all about the type of person they are and how they were raised. if ya want a reserved parking spot just find a little truck stop that makes you pay and work out a deal.

  7. As long as we're tossing around ideas that may or may not happen...How about just training people to be competent drivers with more than 6 weeks experience? How about NOT forcing, or otherwise "encouraging" them to run illegally? How about paying them to wait for exorbitant amounts of time to load/unload? That would vastly improve the quality of driver out here, I think. Why do we just teach them to pass the CDL test, learn company policy, and then turn them loose as steering wheel holders or meat in the seat, rather than transportation professionals? Better yet, let's get truck drivers reclassified as skilled labor.

That would do a whole heck of a lot, in my opinion, to stop all the things that make truck stops so horrible now.

Or, if people in general, wold just take a little bit of pride in what they do and how they present themselves. It's not just the trucking industry that is being filled with folks who don't care. My wife is in law enforcement and it's the same way with them.

It's a societal problem, not a trucking problem. I would take a hard look at joining, though, depending on the price and how much I'd use the services.

Thinking you could possibly charge for a list of good Mom & Pop truck stops that are actually still in business. Maybe take WCP's idea & build upon the network that is already in place.

Always going somewhere new & usually won't take the chance that the little guide book is accurate past the majors 'til I have been through & around a certain area.

They tried it, it was called Idle Air. They went out of business due to a lack of interest.

If you had like 4-5 at high truck traffic areas, that would make sense.
$500/year for full access to all the stops, guaranteed parking spot, secure lot, open pumps. I'd bite.

If you could get investors I'm sure you could get it started up.
It would take a HUGE chunk of change to get it going.

Are you thinking of just taking over an existing stop? or building fresh?

Hey, WCP, you are talking about my kind of place. Unfortunately, you'd never see me there. Not because I would not be willing to pay the fee... but because I will never co-operate with him owning his own rig.
