They do not team drive during training. I ran constant night shift so I can’t answer the other question. I know in the past that was an issue for all carriers that did FedEx. Give them a call and ask about that.

Where is your location? Probably some more choices.
Do you want to run coast to coast or what?

@CaliRaised works for them. He's got a pretty recent thread. I believe he's still there. He can give you the skinny

For what it's worth, my first LTL was Yellow, back before the Roadway merger.

I currently dress in brown and make six figures per year.

So it's the start of a good path.

Thanks LTL. What was your experience like with YRC? Were you on call 24/7 during your time or were you able to maintain a schedule? What expectations should one have for the first year/gross vs. net take home per week?

My experience is from 15 years ago, sadly. So take it with a grain of salt.

I worked 24/7 on call, I was unable to keep a set schedule. Back then we could take up to 72 hours off with no doctor's note, so that helped me keep SOME kind of life. I believe that rule no longer exists, though.

I made 70k both years I worked there, because I ran teams. Otherwise I would have starved.

That's about all I can say that I feel would be relevant in YRC's current state. Maybe guys are making about 80k a year, if I judge their pay rate right. Teams should make 100-110 if they work it.

Thanks LTL. After a year with YRC would you say shoot for UPS or do they require more experience than just a year? I know there's also Estes which I've heard a lot of good about (besides their equipment), but I am looking long term. Health insurance and pension matter to me. I know that UPS is the cadillac of the LTL's. I am in my mid/late 40's and realize the importance of the long term mentality.

When you went brown were you working the dock and driving the extra board or have you never had to work the dock with UPS?

Thanks again for your invaluable insight as it is much appreciated.

UPS needs drivers very badly, so we are taking experience as low as one year (and sometimes less if the right guy vouches for you).

Put in an application. Worst they can say is no.

Did I work the dock? No, at my location they will hire experienced truck drivers off the street. I had 12 years accident- and ticket-free experience at the time of my application, which I thought MIGHT help...they called me first thing the next morning and woke me up. Lol

I love it here. It's the only move I've made in trucking that I don't regret on some level.
