Cummins.... its not a proprietary engine. You can get it worked on pretty much anywhere and you can get parts from anywhere. Paccar you're stuck with pete or kw dealers.

I would say Cummins for when it comes too Heavy Haul and mountain climbing. If you're on flat land pulling light get a Paccar and save some of the fuel as they are good with fuel economy. However I dont like paccar for the ease of parts and service. Cant take it know where but too the dealer. Also I've had ALOT of issues with cummins. Sensor after Sensor from both a International and Kenworth. Maybe just the way the trucks are turned down from the company but Again i will say it is a Powerhouse underneath the hood.

Go with cummins, i put mine 200000 miles and i have not seen shop except for regular maintenance, also it gets 7.5 mpg with lot of east coast mountain driving. I never drove paccar but she pull way better then the last two detroit i drove.

I was real happy with the ISM motor in the mixer, it had WTF low end, it was also a non emissions engine.

Right now they have a brand new Cascadia with a 500 HP ISX / 13 speed for $117K. The same truck with a 455HP DD is $142K. So Freightliner is saying there is $25K worth of headache in that ISX motor.
I know if I was walking in to buy a truck it would be hard not to get the ISX for $25K less.
Everyone I talk to with a Pete or KW at the loading docks, every single person with a used truck says they regret the buying with ISX motor, due to never ending EGR problems.
Glad it's your decision not mine lol.

I will go with cummins. You can buy with lot egrs and more for $25k. Also it pleasure driving strong motor instead of climbing 25 mph in West Virginia mountains with Detroit.

You know when the question is Cummings or DD, all the company drivers running around in mexican made Crapcadias claim you got to get the Detroit. Apparently, they have all heard the Cummins has engine problems and the Detroit always gets '10mpg.' The 10mpg is of course bunk, but some of the early Cummins ISXs are showing up with cam problems around 7-800k. I still rather own and drive an ISX.

When it comes to comparing ISX or paccar I always here ISX. You know driving both, the Paccar is a real good engine. I pull around 103k and it hard to tell the difference between the two. From all reports the Paccar seems reliable. All the trucks I drive with them are short term leases, so I cannot tell you any long term problems but at the same time I have not heard of any.
