Parked my truck for home time for the first time, what are some things I should look

  1. If your worried about brakes freezing. Buy the rubber wheel chocks. Chock the inside wheels of your trailer and leave brakes off. Unless you have an air leak. Then they will set when air tanks drain.

Not sure if this is true but an old timer told me when approaching the place you will be parking lightly pull your trolley brake to heat up and remove any moisture from the brakes. I do it but not sure if it is actually true

I do that, and it works. On my way back to my starting warehouse, unfortunately there are deep puddles along the way. so yes, I pull down on that trolly to a slight drag on the trailer, and for about a quarter of a mile or less to my warehouse, the brakes get warm, but not smoking. This does indeed dry off most of the water that I had run through. To this day, of doing that, I have never had frozen brakes.

I got my co-workers doing this as well.

Honestly, would you be doing that if it were your trailer and the cost of brake shoes and drums were on you? You may never have had frozen brakes, however I would venture to say you go thru trailer brakes faster than the drivers you haven't taught your little trick to. I can just see the drums full of glaze and heat cracks.
