Hey everyone, I took my CDL test over the past three days at Prime in Missouri and passed the last of my test today in order to recive my CDL, I now have to transfer that license to Illinois, as that is where my permanent residency is, as I understand it, Gov ran scrwed us all over, and I have to retake all of my written, pretrip, skills, and road testing in order to transfer my cdl, I am not worried about the road or pretrip tests, what I am worried about is the backing tests, as I understand it Illinois has 3 manuvers on the skills test, Straghit back, offset back, and a 90 degree alley dock, but no parallel parking. for the alley dock, how much space is there, and how many pull ups/goals do I get? so far on primes pad, it takes me between 6 and 7 pull ups to get it in the hole. . .the other question is, if I dont pass the Illinois test for whatever reason, will I lose my license, and my new found Career?

You have to surrender your license in order to get your CDL permit in IL. You have to get your permit before you can schedule any of the road tests. So yes you do have to surrender your license to start the process. Every DMV in IL is different some are brutal some are a cakewalk. Where I live in IL the driving is easy, but they are sticklers on the pre-trip.

This is why I maintain a residence in St. Louis, MO and have a MO CDL even though I spend most of my time in IL. Screw IL.

I knew this before going to prime, but prime had the program that was the best fit for my current financial situation, I'm debating just getting a mailbox at our terminal and using that to claim residency

That's a good idea.Go with that.At least till you get the exp and can do all backing manuvers in your sleep.

i have an Illinois cdl. its pre-trip, measured front stop, measured back stop. straight backing, measured right turn, 90 degree angle backing. thats it for skills, and driving. which lasts about 10 min for driving.

the space isnt bad. but the thing is you might need to go to a driving school to use their trucks. some are 300$ some are 700$.

Prime is going to send me up with a load, and let me use one of there trucks/trailers to test, so a truck for testing is not a prob

If you have access to a truck and trailer, then look into getting a local school trainer to show you the local test.

I have often seen local schools running students though the skills test at the DMV yard on days that the DMV is closed. You should be able to get a trainer to do that for much less than renting a truck and trainer. They often know the exact road test route as well. Even driving it in a car will be a great benefit compared to running it in the rig for the first time, with an examiner watching your every move.

When you get a mailbox at Prime you sign a form that says you will not use the box for claiming residency or as anything other than a "Mailing address"

MO DMV won't recognize the box as a legal address in their system. I registered a vehicle for use in state as I am an out of state resident. They would not issue or mail a new title to my box. DMV computers only recognize Prime's address and not any additional address info. O matter what you call it be it "box #" or "appt #"
