For a while ran a fleet lease truck from Penske. Dealt with five locations in Texas & Oklahoma for service. Was shocked at such an old-fashioned get it done attitude. Of maybe forty people encountered only 2-3 irritating to deal with.
All admitted benefits were the reason. Pay was okay. Good, but not highest.
I can’t imagine drivers not of same caliber. More on the line.
Look for companies that treat you well. IMO, that’s first. Penske would be high on my list. Job description matters most. Expect tight control over rules.
I worked there for a while. From what I seen each location has A different pay scale and working conditions. Some better than others. The location I was at would use the ones that would work and let the lazy ones just slide by. That’s one reason I left. And the pay wasn’t the greatest. The shop would half fix anything and when they got ready to(that means you sit and wait). Again that could be different at each shop. I really wish I’d never seen the place.
