I would say you'll have to convince the safety dept you used pc for something other than truck wash. Just say you went to the liquor store to stock up. At least you'll find out if they have a sence of humor. Seriously say you did some shopping or went to eat.

Very much a grey area.
My novice viewpoint:
If simply washing truck to get dirt off to enable a better inspection that might be work related.
If a more enthusiastic wash, wax, wheel and tire shine that might be viewed as more personal and qualify as PC.
As pointed out above, if trying to claim the cost as business expense that saw will cut both ways. -

It’s work related, logged as driving and on duty.
Solution - pay cash, burn receipt - and under questioning, you visited a friend at the truck wash for a coffee and catch up.Siinman, Sirscrapntruckalot, D.Tibbitt and 2 others Thank this. -

Grey area. I see guys in the truck stop at the end of the day or on weekends polishing and shining up the rig. Is this on duty? Moving the truck via PC adds a different dimension to it all, but for me personally I would log PC as I usually go to the store afterwards. Just my two cents

I'll log on duty to a truck wash if its enroute, but if I have to drive off route and unpaid to one, I'm not doing that. Especially since my company does not ask me to bring the truck in to get it washed, it's my PERSONAL choice if I do. So I use PERSONAL conveyance. But if I do OD driving to a truck wash on route I will NOT sit ON DUTY waiting for whose whackjobs at streakin beacon to get to me. I'm sitting in the back playing on my laptop. That is NOT on duty anything.

Come to think, I spend a lot of time after hours reviewing routes, calling pilots, emailing customers etc. While watching television and eating dinner. Probably should be on duty.
Paper logs never garnered this level of debate. Seems to me it’s of little importance, until you run over a bus full of nuns on the way to get your laundry done, the forensic electronics people hired by the attorney go through everything, and you wind up in jail.Siinman, OldeSkool, Sirscrapntruckalot and 2 others Thank this. -
Rule of thumb.
it’s legal if you don’t get caught illegal if you do.86scotty and blairandgretchen Thank this. -
You’re supposed to log 23 seconds of driving every time you move up in line, and the other 15 minute segments as sleeper time.
Like me using PC to go do laundry. I’m washing my work clothes - not my suit and tie for dinner engagements. So it should be on duty and driving.
The possibilities become almost endless.
These elogs started with Werner, if I recall. Then the ATA and safety groups pushed them along, and , well - here we are.Siinman, OldeSkool, Sirscrapntruckalot and 4 others Thank this.
