Watch that PC with LANDSTAR. New hires get fired all the time for abusing that. Especially don’t start your day on PC. They don’t like it.

It will put you into on duty/drive automatically. Not all LS drivers have access to PC. Not sure what the policy is on new drivers but I know if you abuse you will loose access.

One place to start: In the landstaronline app there is a tile "Navigator". Select "Safety and Compliance" then "Personal Conveyance". Read through the module, answer the questions and you get valuable points redeemable for not getting your ### in a sling.

Also the "Resources" tile search Personal Conveyance and there will be PDF's to review. There was a call in safety conference call recently. The whole open call portion was all on PC. I'm not sure which call it was but they are listed under the tile Podcasts and Videos. Call the Equipment Compliance dept ask for Shelly, let them know which podcast you're trying to get. She knows all.

I thought Landstar was an OO company? Why are they putting limits on your PC,
Just drove my 2018 579 from South Carolina to Las Vegas, Nv all under PC

Because they are the carrier so they set their rules. It’s pretty easy to not lease to a carrier if the terms aren’t agreeable.

I’ve been leased to a carrier before, back with paper logs, never had this issue, as everyone is different, I’d never let a company tell me what I can and can’t do with my personal equipment on my own time

cke, Long FLD and Iamoverit Thank this.

It used to be that way, but guys abused the hell out of it - so they cut it to 2 hours.

Then the rules were defined as “not to be used to further a load/drive towards next load, and not to be used to drive to home terminal.”

If you’re with LS then your home is your terminal, so you couldn’t even use it for the last hour to the house.

I’m now in the camp of “I don’t want to drive 11 hours a day anymore “ , so it rarely upsets my day.

cke, Nostalgic, Long FLD and 3 others Thank this.

    https://www.fmcsa.dot.gov/regulations/hours-service/personal-conveyance

Question 26: Under what circumstances may a driver operate a commercial motor vehicle (CMV) as a personal conveyance?
Guidance: A driver may record time operating a CMV for personal conveyance (i.e., for personal use or reasons) as off-duty only when the driver is relieved from work and all responsibility for performing work by the motor carrier. The CMV may be used for personal conveyance even if it is laden, since the load is not being transported for the commercial benefit of the carrier at that time. Personal conveyance does not reduce a driver’s or motor carrier’s responsibility to operate a CMV safely. Motor carriers can establish personal conveyance limitations either within the scope of, or more restrictive than, this guidance, such as banning use of a CMV for personal conveyance purposes, imposing a distance limitation on personal conveyance, or prohibiting personal conveyance while the CMV is laden.
