The guy that started it all will be also. We had a cop here in Nashville chasing a suspect and he ran across the interstate. The cop went after him and was killed by traffic. They added manslaughter to his charges for putting the cop in that predicament.

The traffic didn't cause the accident. The trucker not paying attention did. Saying the U-haul guy caused the second accident is like saying those people leaving the house in the first place caused it.

Flat Earth Trucker and magoo68 Thank this.

Really? So if you are in an accident and they check your logs and find out you are over your allotted time you don't think you will be found at fault? Guess again. The lawyer will say you were not supposed to be at that particular place at that time. Same deal with this. If he had not run from the police then traffic would not have been stopped and the accident would not have happened. Now I believe this is total BS, but the courts and a jury will decide different. Remember the Werner incident in Texas where a family in an SUV lost control and crossed the median and hit him? Werner was sued and lost. $93M because the weather was so bad that dispatch should have told him he shouldn't be driving, and if he weren't driving they would not have hit him. I am surprised you don't know this kind of thing goes on. This is what our country has come to....blaming other people for their own stupidity. Now the trucker that killed the couple will contest that had traffic not been stopped he would not have had the accident. It will be in court for a long time.

He should be as obviously not paying attention which is the cause of most big truck wrecks

It’s sad but a lot of companies are installing forward and inward facing cameras now.

Not different at all. The interstate should not have been backed up, but there was an accident caused by someone fleeing from the police. If not for him there would have been no wrecks (in theory), but there were wrecks and people died as a result of his actions.

So if a woman flashes a truck driver, and he gets in a wreck because he's not paying attention, it's her fault? Good to know.
