I can't believe some of these posts. A small handful of correct answers and a large pot full of wrong information.

Short answer, no you do not have to get off at Exit 313 to the Port of Entry if you are traveling east and to points east on I-80.

If you are taking Exit 313 to run south on US287, then yes, you would have toenter the POE if it is open. The scale works both directions, meaning north and south bound trucks share and take turns using the scale. Red Yellow, Green in both directions if I remember correctly, at least can be seen in the mirrors of one direction

Kind of reminds me of WA18 going northish to tie into I-90 eastbound, right before the onramp is a sign informing trucks to pass the scale on the westbound side before proceeding. Never known or seen any truck do that, they just jump on the eastbound onramp.

Don't need to exit 80 to go through the port on 287.
You only go through that port if you're already on 287.
And if you're going Southbound it's only if the light tells you to go in but if you're going northbound you always have to go in

You don't need to stop at Casper either if you are traveling on i25. I stopped there one day and he said that I didn't need to stop. I said I know but I have to go by here to get to the Mack dealer.

    I pass Casper 4 times a week.

For the last time...... If you're heading Southbound on the 287 you do NOT have to stop. I've run that road for a long time and have NEVER stopped when heading South. There are always Southbound drivers stopping when they are not required to.......

I have a couple of rhetorical questions--

    1. Then why would they put up a sign before the exit to let trucks know they have to cross the POE if they take that exit southbound?

    2. Why is the scale set up to take truck from either direction?

    3. Could it be that the governement is really that stupid?

The sign before the exit only says "Port of Entry Exit 313" It does not say you are required to stop if going on that route. That sign is only there to tell you the POE is there in case you're looking for it. Like the one in Casper there is no sign on the interstate that tells you that you must proceed to the port. upload_2016-12-8_10-11-39.png

They had a rule at one time that any truck that loaded within the borders of WY had to cross a scale before leaving the state. I think it was in 2008 they finally told us no longer required to stop in there for that reason.

Only stop if the sign says you must stop. Example: on 50 going north into Gillette or 59 coming south into Gillette the signs say you must proceed to the POE. upload_2016-12-8_10-18-9.png
