Small dealers don't have maintenance records, they just pretty it up and make it shiny. rentals...well are treated like rentals, fleets, are just fleet specs

Best bet personally is buying from an OO who is retiring or just upgraded his equipment..

But I'm also only look'n at, & have bought early to mid 90's trucks. Works for me..

“Fleet maintained” = it was greased once a year whether it needed it or not and it’s had an oil change

    Some are afraid of egr.

    My question would be.

How many miles are you willing to pay for? And what will go wrong.

    Since nothing lasts forever.

Who you buy from can be a crap shoot. No substitute for a good mechanic and sampling ALL of the fluids.

    All depends

I’ve bought from O/Os who skimped on maintenance to save money

I’ve bought from lease companies like Ryder who had records for every minute one of their mechanics touched the truck

I know a small regional company that has ten trucks and they do a annual DOT inspection every weekend when the rigs come back to the yard and change the oil every 10k

way too many variables on every truck
I’d definitely avoid any emission garbage trucks
You will be sitting waiting on DEF sensors frequently ,
Unless you carry spares and learn how to change them

Sons Hero and Last Call Thank this.
