Do not Call.
Send them a certified letter asking them to prove you owe the debt. If they can send you verified copies of the contract you signed, and the period of time your state has placed on unsecured collection has not expired then they can pursue you.
If they can't provide you with physical evidence, they must drop the collection.
States have differing time limits as to how long unsecured debt is collectible. I live in Texas and the time limit is 4 years from the date of the last action on the account.Dave_in_AZ, Just passing by, gentleroger and 3 others Thank this. -
Check your credit. If you’re already in collections your credit is gonna be a bit ####ed but really no reason to pay it since it will fall off after 7 years...
If it isn’t on your report I’d pay it because that’s not gonna look good to a bank if you need a loan.Dave_in_AZ and Chinatown Thank this. -
The agency wants you to contact them so the 7 yrs. statue of limitations starts over. Ignore them for 24 more mos. and you're debt free. If you contact them, sign for any mail from them or send even a penny, the 7 yrs. starts over. It's up to you what you do. It's not a perfect world so do what's bests for your family.
Prime probably cleaned out some old files and sold the debt to a collection agency for pennies on the dollar, so now the collection agency sees a chance to make some profit off it. Prime already wrote it off.John A., Dave_in_AZ, Just passing by and 9 others Thank this. -
That’s right. Could just be a fishing expedition to get you to discuss your debt.
Dave_in_AZ, zigstar and Bumper Thank this. -
Principally, legitimate debts ought to be paid. Don't you think this one is legit? It is not a credit card debt with 29.99APR. This is an unfulfilled commitment - repayment of the CDL training cost. No interests accrued.
I am still paying off my student loans, though a truck I drive for a living. Am I a sucker by doing so? Should I stop my payments?kylefitzy, not4hire, Dan.S and 1 other person Thank this. -
I am truly amazed. In one thread a guy oversleeps 1 hours and is late for his appointment so the receiver wants him to wait 5 more days to get unloaded and many members say that that serves him good. In this thread another person wonders, if he can get away with a legitimate obligation (if indeed there is one) and many of you say screw them , don't pay. Then we have this brokers and shippers sub-forum, or bad and good companies sub-forums, where they complain about non payments, late payments, double brokering, swindle brokering. So how's this non-payment different from a broker or company non-payment? Where is some integrity? Look I am tired, I could talk nonsense, I came home this evening and I need a drink now. Good night!
