That Swift problem was limited to one place. It has not happened at the many others.
Swift does not provide sub-standard training as a whole (and it wasn't the training that was in question - it was the testing), and they have more to gain by training well than they have to gain by cutting corners.
They get rated on safety, just like anyone else. Maybe even more so, being the largest trucking company in the nation.
I think a lot of people are overreacting to this whole Memphis thing.
I have been with Swift for over 2 years, and my training mentor had been for over 6 at the time.
We are both still with Swift. I think, for good reason.
I am treated fairly, I am allowed to run my loads as I see fit (for the most part), they get me to my home time locations pretty much right on time (never the same place twice in a row, I might add, because of the different family members that I take home time with), they take care of the equipment as best they can (yes, I have had a couple lemon trucks - but it was usually not directly due to the Swift mechanics).
There are far worse places to work than Swift.
And if you are between going to Swift Academy or another school, remember this...
After a year or so with Swift you are paid up for the training, then they start paying you back that amount during the next year.
Money back in your pocket.
Also, if you don't stay with your first job for at least a year it might be very difficult to find employment elsewhere.
Job hoppers are a bad sign.

Thanks Moose. I've heard horror stories and success stories both about Swift. My first avenue was gonna be CR England. After further research I ran from that option. Was also told to stay away from any lease offers no matter how grand they make it sound.

I would also look in to the Job Corps. My buddy that went to school with me got his schooling paid for in full through them.

Looks like I'm just going to bite the bullet and continue on with Swift, everyone has to start somewhere. Contacted the VA and was told I had to contact the local college. Contacted the local college with the info VA gave me and was told class doesn't start until May and I would have to contact the VA first (the where I started who said the college handles everything).
