I have a ford 10yd dump truck, 6 wheeler, and its been giving me problems with the spit shift button you pull up....

The process I have been using is as follows...When I am in the 5th and highest gear, I keep the accelerator down and switch up the button on the gear stick...

Now the problem is the #### thing half the time does not engage.....

If I keep the switch up and gear down, I hear a rattle and it may jump in after 10 seconds, but for that 10 seconds I have nothing...

What Am I doing wrong and if the spit shift does not engage, what should I do, Pop it back in??

This is a picture of the truck in question, thanks

When you pull up on the red button you can either shove the clutch in and let it out,or you can pull up the red button and let off the gas and it will shift.

When you push down on the red button same pricipal except it will not shift until you press on the gas petal. That is why you are getting the delay.

SO down shifting push down the red button let off the gas and the immediatly push on the gas and it will shift. You can also clutch it just remember on the down shift it will grind unless you push on the gas petal.

Also when split shifting you want to push the red button down after the shift.

If you are in third gear with the red button up. The next shift if you are loaded should be forth gear with the button down. So you would shove the clutch in ,shift from third to forth gear, push down the red button, let the clutch out and immediatly press on the gas petal.

So there are kinda two ways of doing this...So when im in my highest gear, I should lift the red button then push in the clutch and release???

And the only time i push the red button back in is when Im stopped????

that makes sense...so when I want to up shift to go faster, is it ok to have button in when in fourth, push clutch in, shift to five, pull button up, press gas???

I never engaged the split shift while changing gears, I always maxed out in five, pull up button with gas down, release gas and it would engage with no clutch..??

I recently had my 9 speed changed to a 13 speed. The mechanic testing it said it would not split, so he took it apart again and found massive amounts of rust in the splitter valve-- cleaned out and splits perfect now.

You can push the red button down to down shift. You just need to learn you have to push on the gas petal after you push the red button down.

I know it sounds crazy but the down shift works off the accelerator.

The transmission we are talking about is a 5 speed with a 2 speed rear-end. This spliter is electric.

I like these transmissions. It does take sometime to get use to them.
