Proper Driver Attire For The Trucking Industry

Those drivers had lived through the Great Depression. They didn't go to work everyday mad the world hadn't already made them a millionaire TikTok-er. They knew what a blessing it was to have a steady job that meant their family had food and a place to live. So if the boss wanted them to look like a respectable man, they wore the tie. I prefer that to today where everyone is wearing pajamas 24/7 and whining how unfair the world treats them.

 

I wore a tie enough before I drove a truck. I sure couldn't see wearing one then and can't remember the last time I wore one.

It was definitely a different era.

 

Great uncle that raised me was born in 1918, never knew a day he wasn’t wearing a white T shirt under a long sleeve button up work shirt. Summer time he rolled the sleeves up just above his elbows, and never owned a pair of shorts. He made fun of guys in shorts…. Gee whiz look at those knobby knees!

I to this day am reluctant to wear shorts, just what we grow up with I guess.

Never drove a truck before in less than jeans, T shirt, and boots, but last few years I have been wearing tennis shoes when I drive. And yes my steel toe boots are always in the sleeper, along with all my other ppe.

Folks can wear what they want, but, it’s not hard to spot those who don’t take their job seriously…..

 

When I was OTR I wore jeans, t-shirt and ball cap with tennis shoes. At delivery or pickup I’d wear a company shirt and steel toes, because I never knew if I was needed on the dock.

when I went LTL I started wearing company uniforms, and tbh I prefer these over just regular clothes at work.

 

Get this, years ago at the in laws for supper, my brother in law was boasting about how he got an award for perfect attendance. My dear( late) mother in law looked at me and said, I don't understand, why would someone get an award for that, aren't you supposed to come to work anyway?
On vacation in Fla. once, the couple next to us, a wonderful older couple, Ed and Doris from NJ. Ed served in the Pacific, was a paratrooper, did like 5 "drops", unheard of. He couldn't understand todays greed, he said, isn't half a loaf of bread better than none at all? I guess not, Ed.
Remember the "All in the Family" lines, "Didn't need no welfare state, everybody pulled their weight, gee that old Cornbinder ran great, those were the days,,

 

Yeah it's definitely a better look than what's going on today.

I have no issues with someone wanting to be comfortable while driving, but dang it, they should at least look presentable. That stained up 10 year old Iron Maiden tee shirt and the stained sweat pants, just toss them out already!
Point is, you can dress comfortably and not look like a slob doing it.

 

We definitely already peaked.
