I see a lot of video's of people backing into a parking spot at truck stops which seems like it might be hard to do, but being a newbie I wonder how people pulling doubles find parking where they don't have to back in.

Dude, Newtons law. What can go wrong will go wrong. Trying to back a set of doubles will make everything go wrong. Don't even try and attempt such a foolish act. For one you'll piss off a lot of drivers plus have them looking at you trying to figure out what the hell it is your trying to accomplish because backing a set of doubles would be like trying to push a rope. The only time you should ever back is when hooking up your dolly and second trailer.
Most of the time those guys are stopping early enough to find a pull through parking space. When its not possible they usually find an open area at the back of the lot out of the way of others, or park at the customer or terminal or find a straight place like an entrance/exit ramp but thats one I won't suggest due to how dangerous it is and most states now it is illegal. Don't try and back doubles. Thats not an accident waiting to happen, thats an accident thats gonna happen.Skydivedavec and Gearjammin' Penguin Thank this. -

I was not planning on backing, I have seen how hard that is in video's. I just wondered how and where they parked and you answered that, thanks for the info. -
10-4. Yea I've seen a couple in videos but those guys had to be doing it for many years and are highly skilled at it. Not something I would try and attempt even in the middle of a corn field lol.

It is true that most drivers backing doubles had a lot of practice. They most likely started out on a farm with a pickup and two grain wagons. You back a set like you back a car. To move the rear trailer you turn the wheel you want the trailer to go (very, very minor wheel movements), then follow it around with the other trailer and cab. If you are ever in Indianapolis on I-465 exit 4 at the Flying J around midnight there are a couple UPS Freight drivers that will back a set into a parking spot.

I've tried it. The dolly didn't agree with what was going on.

All the lazy divers will fill up the pull through spots and not even think about leaving them for doubles.

Wow, now pull thru spots are designated for doubles??!!???!! Who knew. So a driver that may be tired and not feel safe backing between to trucks is lazy if he grabs an open pull thru spot.....hmmmm. What world are you living in pal. I don't park at truck stops cause I'm home every day but if I did I sure would take whatever spot was open, period!!!!Chucktaylor and dennisroc Thank this.

Theres a video on youtube of an Australian driver backing in a set of triples!!!!

Things are different in PA. nobody cares and nobody is going to so just do it.

What i'm mostly refering to is a small TS with only a few middle spots and there are already some doubles there, it's a good indication that more will be coming. If someone parks there then yes I will think they are a lazy clown that can't even be bothered to think of anyone else, especially if they are too tired to park it.dennisroc and Skydivedavec Thank this.
