Hello trucker community!
I need some advice here. I am in the market to purchase 2 tractors (mainly interested in Volvo and Cascadia), something thats reliable and fuel efficient. This will be the first time I will be purchasing a truck with DPF/DEF technology and therefore, I do not know what I should be looking for when looking at a used equipment. It will between 2010 - 2012 with less than 800,000KM (not miles)
The trucks will be used to haul around 50,000lbs going south to South Carolina from Alexandria Bay (Kingston Ontario) and back up to Buffalo. Any recommendations and advice on the specs will be greatly appreciated.
Thank you

if you wanna buy a def fluid truck buy newer that 2012. try 2015. but to be honest get a truck predpf (2007) with a recent rebuild which will be like brand new
-
Why is that? 2015 will be way too out of my budget. I know DPF and DEF have issues with the filter and DEF oil freezing, but I heard as long as you use quality filter, you may not have the problem. I am in favor of pre- def. All my current trucks are pre- def... but I want a better fuel milage and also a truk with engine rebuilt will have other problems due to wear and tear.

I'm in the pre EGR camp too - unless you run California, I'd be steering toward used gliders or pre 2003.

those are my two choices but when I test drove 3 Cascadia/Volvo/ t680 in last 2 month I came to conclusion that Volvo is still smoothest running and has the best visibility/ big windows/mirrors. Cascadia maybe more feul efisient and parts are cheaper but it rides like agricultural tractor. and t680 cab is narrow and rides rougher then Volvo. but that's my opinion

I heard d13 has less emission junk problems

Pre-DPF is not an choice sadly. I want something 2011-2012 with DEF

Have an independent shop check it thoroughly.
Run FULL ECM report. Ask here for warning indicators once you have them.
Run Rig Dig report.
Consider warranty.
Good luck.Dominick253 Thanks this. -
Buy a glider, cost less than new and no emissions problems.
