The Qualcomm (QC) message is internal. I'm aware that Landstar is certainly different than the major carriers, I was pointing out that it isn't necessary to purchase your own authority to make very very good money as an O/O or fleet O/O.
Purchasing your own authority gives you the biggest possible cut of freight value, but also comes with greater headaches that not everyone wants to tackle.
I understand that Swift O/O's are now starting to be able to haul for brokers in addition to hauling Swift freight, so that is also a plus. Still, I'd like to be north of $2 per mile to make a profit on top of a good paycheck.
Purchasing your lease truck...

Talk to some drivers that are in DSW trucks about what they get paid. The guy that owns those trucks has his own yard in Tuscon I believe, his own dispatchers that work the Q/C system, and a lot of trucks that run strictly with in the Swift protocol.

I've never heard of DSW. Just from crunching numbers, I just don't see how it would be plausible.

OLD FUEL PLAN=less per mile flat rate+standard FSC for loaded miles
NEW FUEL PLAN=more per mile flat rate+half of standard FSC for all miles
The new fuel plan worked if your DH was greater than 10%... If not, then you lost $$ signing on to the 'new' plan... That's why we stayed on the OLD plan... Because we have ZERO dead head miles -
I just called up IEL and asked them for a payoff quote. They came up with a number and I sent them a check in the snail mail. some time later my DM send me a message that an envelope had arrived at her desk with my name on it from Phoenix. I had her hold it til I got there for hometime. It was just some info regarding the final details about buying the truck. like the need to go to the DMV right away and get the title in my name within so many days.
The boss lady at the DMV had no idea about commercial vehicles, she wanted me to cough up $4500 bucks to get the title. I took another number and waited, got called up to some lowly clerk who only charged me $18 bucks for the title and refunded $4482 bucks back to me to come in the mail within 6 weeks lol.
Several months later at tax time my tax guy wanted a bill of sale, IEL could not provide one, in fact they said they never provide them. Recently leased to another carrier, got ahold of Rapid Response for a bill of sale, they faxed one within the hour which was weird. -

I also have not seen this message..it must only be goin to the central folks...We did learn from Phoenix a few weeks ago that they will finance the balloon at the end of the lease..or so they say...we all know how that goes.. -
I'm a company driver for Swift, not Central. Both my teammate and I have had a few messages encouraging us to consider L/P, and we received the QC message with the $1.075 per mile offer. So not sure whether this is for a dedicated account or whether this applies to any new O/O.
Lady K Thanks this.
