Hi been doing alot of reading here on trucking companies and i start CDL school on july 26th at C1 truck driving school in Indianapolis, IN. and was per-hired by USA Trucking my cousin went to that same school about 7 years ago and worked for PAM for over 4 years said it was a great school and great company. My question is, has anyone been there and worked for USA or Pam or am i making a big mistake like the 2 other post i read for bad companies?

    Thanks
    John

I went through the C1 school in 2008 and was supposed to go with USA Truck, but I got called for FEMA deployment so I never went out. A few of the guys in the school with me kept in touch and they said USA was not bad for getting first year experience but most of them have moved on after that year. There are good and bad things with the school, just like most of the other similar schools . The "motel" that they house you in is a rat-trap and a few of the instructors are really bad. A majority of the Instructors are pretty good at what they are there to do....get you to pass the CDL testing. A majority of them will not teach anything other than what is required for range and road testing to pass the state CDL. I had a bad instructor the first few days behind the wheel and requested a different instructor. Within 20 minutes he had most of my issues corrected and even showed me a few other things that they were not required to teach. He was an experienced driver with 30+ years behind the wheel and 18 of those years in NYC plus he happened to be from my home town :) If you go there have an open mind, take in everything you can and realize that you are only going to learn the basics. Good Luck!

I was very satisfied with what I was taught at C1 in Fort Wayne. However, what that entails is just enough to get a CDL. The instructors and staff were knowledgeable and helpful. What you need to know is that you will not learn how to drive a truck until you get on the road with someone to teach you. What you will learn at C1 is the bare minimum to pass the Indiana CDL test.

My larger concern would be signing with Driver Solutions or USA/ PAM. Read this forum and find what kind of reputation all three have. There are literally dozens of trucking companies doing their own in house training, for much less money and commitment, and will likely pay you 10%-20% more once your training is done. If you do a little research on this forum and the internet , I am sure you can find more viable solutions.

I have never work for either company. But i do know some people that worked for USA. They told me that it was an ok starter company but that the pay was not very good, and that they did a lot of sitting around. neither of them are still working with the company. I don't know a thing about Pam, except that there information booklet looks like a magazine. But if you have a pre-hire with USA and no one else is looking at you take it. You don't have to stay forever just long enough for you to get the experience to work where you want.

Thanks RoadRaid3r and Wagoneer88 i been doing alot of reading on here on the DAC for usa truck hey i am not complaining but i am looking at it like i got to start somewhere pay my dues and learn! I have learn one thing thing by reading and talking to others that have drove for USA that if you are willing to take any load and not refuse loads that are only a couple hundred miles that if you start refusing then you are going to sit and also learned that going in with a open mind and willingness to learn and wok you will be fine! I start school monday the 26th everything is set i leave sunday for Indy IN. Will keep everyone posted on my school and also when i am training and on my own
