I recently graduated from Continental Truck Driving School in Dallas Tx. I am starting with FFE this coming Thursday. I was wondering if this will be a good starter company to go with. If any who is or has worked for them can give me any advice it will be greatly appreciated. The only thing that I dont like about is the one year contract but at least that will give me that one year experience that most companies require. Ive had family who worked for them as mechanics ( Colmen Charles Donaghey and his son Charlie Donaghey) So thats another reason I thought of going with them. But if anyone can give me advice or suggestions please do. And if you have any info about the academy please share. Thank You.

Use the search box for FFE Driver Academy. I read every single page before I committed. I was just there this afternoon picking up an empty trailer, nothing seems to have changed in the 6 1/2 months since I went through it. It's a starter company. Do your time, gain some experience, then move on to bigger and better things.

Thanks for the info...So I take it that you work for them? How much home time do you get with them?
-
Company "policy" is every 3 weeks, with 1 day for every week. I am single, no kids, no pets, everything in storage, etc., so I go home every 6-8 weeks. But I think I'm going to trim that down a little to every 4-6 weeks. Max time is 5 days from what I've heard, but I've never asked for more than 4.

That's good. I'm married and have a 2 year old. Is the trucks equipped with APUs?
-
The newer Prostars have them but not the Freightliners. Your comfort is not high on the priority list at FFE.

Thanks for the info...just one more question on a good week how many miles do you average?
-
To be completely honest, I don't keep track. I just make sure I get paid for the loads I deliver. If I had to venture a guess, I'd say 2500ish.

I'm currently employed with the company and have had a good experience so far. I would suggest reading the fine print. They have been straight up about everything they have said. No surprises or bs. Ask questions when you talk to a recruiter. Know if you want to do OTR, LTL, regional aor local ahead of time. If you go through the academy you'll more than likely be going OTR. Have those issues worked about before you sign on the dotted line.
