600 MILES OF RAIN FOLKS. THIS WASN'T NO DRIZZLE.
every 50 miles i had to tighten the straps. by the time i made delivery. those straps were so stretched out they were tearing up. -
Been there....Done that!
Never, Ever had to replace any straps because they got wet! (Even REALLY wet)
If they were tearing up because they got wet they were junk when you put them on and would have torn even if they were dry.
Really old straps will fray or tear whether they are wet or dry (they have got to be pretty old and rotten) but I've never kept straps for more than a year or two and then I toss'em or give them away and replace them with new ones.
But rain, Even a whole lot of rain will NOT damage a good strap.TheHealthyDriver, SMTatham, bullhaulerswife and 2 others Thank this. -
I wondered when the handcuff subject would breach this thread.

Mommas_money_maker, Big John and bullhaulerswife Thank this.

Couldn't agree more! -

Mommas_money_maker and Injun Thank this. -
yep, those yellow straps are what i have.
and nope. they weren't that old.
you tighten the load down every 50 miles cuz of the consistent rain. just how far do you think those things can stretch out.
they have to give sooner or later. cuz nothing can stretch forever.
when those straps came off. they were no longer yellow but white instead. from the stitching coming apart. -
Sorry dude....I don't believe a word of this. I'm a very big, strong guy and I tighten straps till they sound like a guitar string and have never seen this happen...Ever!
Rain does nothing to straps other than make them wet.
Nice try though.Big John, Oscar the KW, Mommas_money_maker and 2 others Thank this. -
I've seen a brand new out of the package 30,000 pound capacity 6 inch strap (actually was a 30 foot eye to eye rigging sling) break right in the middle when 50,000 pounds of force was put to it.
Some of the junked car haulers use wire rope, why is that not more prevalent in flatbedding?
