That seems to be the way it works, And that is what I had to do...But the 500 mile radius from home got me everywhere I needed or wanted to go..Whatever you find get ready to write a BIG check for it.....This reminds me I have to cancel my ins..Monday morning...Stick a fork in me..I'm done...LOL

I put this in another post, but the 500 miles is "as a bird flies" not driving miles. Depending where you live, the "the bird flies" method can add considerably more drivable miles than just straight mileage count. Your agent should verify this for you, mine did. I guess it really comes down to how much do you want what you want? One year of Progressive doesn't seem that bad to me when I compare it to giving up control and driving at someone else's mercy for the same year. Hope it helps. -
I agree ... 1 year (or less) won't kill me. I'm too old to go to work for someone else......May be only a 300 mile radius in Virginia !!! can't get a straight answer but 300 really puts a cramp on things.

This just in from my agent, Carolina Underwriters may write the coverage also. There is about 6 pages of history info they want, but I haven't seen it from him yet, so I don't know what on it. I do know the rate is 1500 per year cheaper and Unlimited on mileage. You just have to find an agent in your area that can write coverage with them.

I only told him CDL was issued this year, then told him what I wanted. First he came back with Progressive only, and then I asked him to work on finding other options. He worked on it for a couple of days and came back with Carolina and someone else, but I don't remember who. -

Many people on this board told me I would never get insurance.........that I should look to a different type of job........that, not even a crappy company would hire me...etc etc...........you can look up all the comments on the thread I posted a while back.
The reality was......... I applied for my own authority.....applied for my CDL......took the test in a borrowed truck, after two hours practice, no driving school........I got insurance at a great rate from Wilshire and I carried my first load the day after passing my CDL test.
I arrived back in the US, with no CDL......a bad driving record......no truck, trailer......in fact, I had never even sat in a big truck.....ever.........26 days later I was off and running, my own truck/trailer.....own authority....good insurance....and I have been so busy since that this is the first time I have logged onto this site...........My trailer has been empty once........for 40 miles. I'm now sitting in a hotel in San Diego having a little break...........Put our mind to it and anything can be done. There are a lot of naysayers on this board..........and a lot of negativity..............send me a pm if you need any pointers.russellkanning Thanks this. -
I'd reccommend you go get a tractor and lease to one of those dump outfits out of Buffalo NY and work a year then get your own trailer and authority. Mallone is an exellent dump outfit. Heard they have 80,000 tons to move from BUF-Easton Pa and they always have loads both ways.
