I live in the Cincinnati Ohio area. I test for my cdl tomorrow. Presuming I pass it, I have several pre-hires. Based on my needs/wants I have narrowed it down to two companies. They are Shaffer/Crete and Werner. I am looking to haul refer units and I want all 48 states. I dont care about home time. Which company would you choose and why?
Question: Shaffer/Crete or Werner?

That's an easy one,go with Crete.Werners deffination of running 48 states is the North East.
blairandgretchen and mje Thank this. -
If you want to run longhaul with a reefer, you may want to look elsewhere. I was with Crete for many years . Crete and Shaffer do a lot of shorter hauls these days. Much of it on the eastern half of the country.
I think Central Refrigerated hires new drivers and I see them out west and they are based in Salt Lake City.
Ask companies what there average length of haul is. Imo , the longer the haul, the better.
The problem with shorter haul loads is all the time waiting to load/unload and waiting for your appointment time. Most of this waiting is unpaid. Also, parking availability is better out west.
I don't know much about Central, but it could be a good place to get reefer/driving experience.mje and BuckeyeCowboy63 Thank this. -
Crete with no doubt. Talked to a few of their drivers, very happy, reasonable pay and miles. Werner would be my second from last choice.
