Hey guys I have a big problem and need some help, I got my CDL back in 08 and drove for the Big Pumpkin for a little less than two years. In 09 while driving for them I got 2 tickets one in PA, I got lost and ended up in a truck restricted road and another one in AL cop said I was doing 51 in a 35 (I call b.s. on this one I wasn't going anywhere that fast) a couple months after this I got burned out on OTR trucking and decided to leave I gave my two weeks and left on good terms. Unfortunately the job market sucks in my area and was unable to find any job for almost a year. As off now I been working a low paying guard job and been wanting to get back to trucking I tried to apply back with my old company but they told me since I had a 15+ over the speed limit they could not hire me. I am not sure what to do now do I have to suck it up till that ticket goes away or is there something else I can do? also how long does that stay on my record some say 3 years others say 5. Also in the future is there a way to fight traffic tickets? I remember see services being advertised at the truck stops but do these things actually work?

Stays on your record forever. Points drop off after 3 years. Probably looking at 5 years for the 15 over offense.

Pretty much nothing you can do but wait. Yes you can hire a lawyer, pay lots of money and possibly get the points taken off but you won't get the offense taken off and that's what they are looking at.

How long it stays on your driving record will depend on your state and the format of their MVR. It could be there for 10 years or more. How it effects your driving career will depend on the company and its insurance company. Some companies look at tickets in 3 years and some look at tickets in 5 years. The last part of the equation will be how much experience you have within the last 3 years.

You will be limited by the number of tickets, the age of tickets and your recent experience. You will need to search for companies that will allow you to have a couple of tickets in the last three years. If you wait for the tickets to be over three years old, you may not have enough recent experience to get hired.

The 15 MPH over posted limit can be a real deal breaker. You may well have to settle for a less than favorable company to get back in.

I don't think a pre-paid legal plan is cost effective. I do however hire an attorney and fight all tickets. It often costs several hundred dollars but it always pays off for me. With most pre-paid plans you will pay $300 - $500 per year and an additional fee for any ticket. This is about the same or a little more than what you will pay to fight a ticket. If you are getting more than one a year you need to look at your driving habits, no offense intended.

thanks for the replies if it takes going with one of the less desirable companies I'm willing to suck it up for a year or two as long as I can at least make around 500 a week. Any idea on which company will hire someone with a 15+ ticket?

I don't know for sure. I know several websites I have visited will accept a combination of 3 tickets or accidents in 3 - 5 years. I also know several won't take any serious violations and 15 MPH over limit fall in that catagory per Part 383.51.

You have been a TTR member for some time so you probably are aware of the great information here. The following threads could help:

    http://www.thetruckersreport.com/truckingindustryforum/trucking-company-dac-reports/

You might get company names from the DAC thread. Then Google them and find their website. Most have driver requirements on their website. Good luck.

The best thing you can do is start calling companies and start filling out applications. Talk to the company recruiters to find out what the MVR minimum requirements are.

I agree with always fighting the tickets because your license is your bread and butter and you need to do everything possible to keep it in good condition. You can drive as carefully as possible but you still can end up with unfair citations.

I do not agree with the prepaid legal plan. When you get a ticket then fight it. Otherwise save your money!

Whatever you do, don't get a ticket in Craplifornia! They will make you pay the ticket plus pay a bail fine just to fight it. Then when you lose they will make you pay even more!

    BigJohn54 Thanks this.

Dumb question here, how do go about fighting a ticket? Do I hire a lawyer from the area where I got the ticket or can I get one from my home state?
The reason I never fought any of the tickets was because I got it in AL and I'm all the way in CA thought it was impossible for me to fight it.
