That is a good point that you seldom hear/read on here or any other board.
Every time someone is bragging about "I'm home every night, and sleep in my own bed"---atleast 75% of them are not giving the full story.
Sure they report to work atleast once in a 24 hour period....and sure they also walk through the door of their domicile atleast once in that same 24 hour period. But how much time is spent with actual loved ones, how much of that 24 hour period is during daylight hours, and how much time is spent in that bed they so offten brag about?
The answer varies. I have worked two local jobs (not counting harvest with a hopper)---one was from 11:15a.m. to 'when ever everything was done' (usually 9:00 to 9:30p.m)....get home about 10:00pm. and the wife was in be. Get up about 7:00am. and the wife had left for work.
My current job, I start at 5:00am. (so I am up by 4:00am.), and work until about 5:00 to 5:30 pm....get home about 5:45 or 6:00pm.---go to bed at 8:30pm. so I can get ample sleep for that 4:00am. wake-up. So I actually get to spend a couple hours with the wife after my shower etc...
The advantages? Well...I DO get to take care of my lawn in warm seasons, and snow in cold seasons, and unburden my wife with those tasks. And I DO save money by taking a lunch to work with me, rather than buy food on the road AND groceries for the house......otherwise......ummmmm......yah; that's about it.
I'm thinking about going back over the road just so I can get some rest. LOL!

There's actually lots of discussion about that here. Some of us live up to an hour or more away from either a single day cab job or a location that has several. A two hour commute plus whatever is required of the job? No thanks, I prefer staying out for 4 or 5 days and then going home for a few days. This benefits me in saving up to $400 dollars of gas a month for my vehicle, not to mention my utility bills at home are about $60 dollars a month for electric and water.
Some of don't need or want to be home everyday but when we do go home were doing more than just "sleeping in our beds" But I would go anywhere the money is, that is my motivating factor after almost anything else. -
That is what I am hoping to find after I get my first year or so behind me. My husbands last job was sometimes 10 hours a day plus a 2 hour commute he worked for Tri-Ad Steele in Wickenburg AZ. ... he was a zombie all the time,... got up at 3, left at 4 to be at work at 5. After he got home from work he took a shower, ate, watched the news for an hour and went to bed. On his days off he needed one day to just do nothing but sleep in and rest all day, his second day off he did whatever chores needed his attention than Monday the grind all over again. I always felt bad for him to have to put himself through that. But now he has been unemployed for 2 years and savings are gone and still no work around here so that is why I am looking into trucking. I like to drive. I have been driving a 9 seat transit van for 7 years and still not burned out with the job, just can't make ends meet on $900. a month with one income. If I made even $500. a week we would get by alright. My husband could stay at home and take care of the animals and get caught up on all the repairs the house needs -

Looks like you must be running well. Thread's been hijacked and you're not here to take it back.

Seems like Knight is keeping him busy and I believe he is upgrading to become a trainer too.

Wife finally got to drive today. Put in 500 miles too. She's not bad, a little timid on surface streets but she never scared me so that's a start.
Busy day tomorrow. Delivering in Denver, then grabbing a tire load at the yard and running it down to Colo. Springs. After that it's back to denver to pick up a load to Oregon.Shardrk Thanks this. -
