That explains why it took forever to calculate routes during which time you couldn’t search for POIs. Not that the POIs were that accurate, because they caused me twice to run out of route looking for a place to turn around.

Not to mention that a lot of times you couldn’t sit down and plan your entire trip including your stops in one sitting, as the TND 500 took forever to calculate the routes. That is when it didn’t tell you that, “there is no available truck route.” Not to mention all the times some small towns that I would go to on a regular basis weren’t even listed in its database.

In any event, one of the reasons I’ve never received a ticket since I have been driving a truck is because I am a meticulous planner. However, with the TND 500 you can forget about sitting down and planning your trips in one sitting. Hell, if you plan a long trip, you might have to wait hours for it to calculate the route, and you can forget about planning your stops. Indeed, I had to embark on some of my trips even before the route was finished calculating, so forget about looking it over and checking it. It was absurd. Not to mention that the zoom feature was also a joke.

In addition, the routes it calculated were always quite a bit longer than the routes my company supplied and then when it would recalculate the routes, which would happen every time you entered a truck stop, weigh station, rest area, etc., it would also tack on additional miles to your trips on many occasions.

Thus, you can make all the apologies and excuses you want, but the fact remains the TND 500 wasn’t close to being ready for prime time, and from what I gathered from reading the last 10 pages of this thread, most of the people that got stuck with it are losing their patience and getting very fed up and I can’t say that I blame them.

With all due respect, when you get those ridiculous full screen warnings, or when the TND 500 for no discernable reason would go absolutely crazy, or when the display became delayed by 5 are more minutes, or when the TND 500 took way too long to recalculate a route, and you are on your own in totally unfamiliar territory and usually at the most inopportune times, you could easily end up with a ticket or worse if you are not very careful. That’s the kind of brain damage I determined I could do without.

I mean at least with a roadmap, pen, and paper I could sit down in one sitting and plan out my entire trip and all my stops, go over the trip with a fine tooth comb so there would be no unexpected surprises. You couldn’t even do that with the TND 500 and then on top of it you also had to put up with all that other brain damage. No thank you.

Mark, I have been off work for two months due to a back injury but should be returning to work next week. Just wondering if the big update will be out this week.

okay you have explained why YOU don't like any tnd on the market
now go play with S&T and your laptop (which by the way is soon to
be outlawed in a commercial vehicle while in operation as a distraction) and let the rest of us use this forum as a support forum

Meanwhile, a GPS isn’t a distraction? Yeah right! I’ve been hearing that idiotic garbage for as long as I have been driving a truck and I have been driving a truck for quite awhile.

Well if they outlaw them for trucks, then they need to outlaw them for cops too since more cop cars use them than not. Gee…it is obvious that you will believe almost anything no matter how absurd it actually is. No wonder you remain such a loyal Rand McNally customer.

Finally after almost 5 weeks in trainer's truck and has it really only been 2 days in my own??? I'm home for the weekend.

My old Garmin is going along on Monday. It generally stays on the big roads, but I have to go where the Qualcom says anyhow....
