Call it idiotic if you want I really do not care, but seeing as i have been
driving at least three times longer then you ie: 30 vs 9, I think I've seen way more than you ever will.
Btw I own the PC Miler 430, Garmin 465T, Rand McNally and yes even S&T
and DeLorme.
now as I run a team truck having a laptop in the cab is not an option
for us. and out of all those devices I find the Rand to be the best for us
(personal opinion) now if you find the laptop to be your best option more power to you.
my objection with your posts are:
#1 you have done nothing but attack rand in their support group
and you have admited that you returned your rand almost as soon as you purchased it.
#2 you sound like a microsoft salesman as that is your choice of software
and you push that in another companies support group
did rand hit the market sooner then they should have? possibly but that
was their decision to release at that time.
at least they have never charged for any updates to date where as you
must purchase a new version each year in order to stay current
I can setup the tnd in 2 minutes or less
you sound like you enjoy spending 1-2 hours playing with yours before each trip.
sorry we don't have that luxury not if we intend to run 6500/7000
miles a week.
so as was said before this is a support group for Rand McNally users
not a ##### group for non users.
good luck in your travels and enjoy your toys, i certainly will enjoy mine![]()

Ok other then the high def screen. and its a bigger screen. is there any reason i should go get the TND 700. i really like my TND 500. i dont want a 7" monster blocking my veiw. but i do like the idea of higher resolution screen. the calender is ehh i got one posted on the dash. the notes thing ehh great idea but i know i wont use it. so mr rand mcnally spokes person. please sell me and the other users of this board on why the TND 700 is going to be worth us going to. personally i LOVE my TND 500. even though it got confused when i went mudbogging in a drop yard lol

i'm trying to update the TND 500 and it looks like the files are downloading but then all of a sudden the TND dock program just closes down, and when i start it back up it still says the same files are available to download.
Any idea why thats happening
ok i hooked it up to my laptop which has win7 and it updated fine, but on WINXP it had problems.
One other thing I just noticed, The SD card slot is empty. Whats the point of the SD slot?
Make that 2 more questions, in truck tools/ truck info the weight is at 80 000, height is 13.6 width is 8'6'' , should I leave it as that?, I will be driving a 53 foot trailer with an international truck with a double bunk.Last edited: Apr 16, 2010

Then SavageSam asked me what solution I was using. I then responded to SavageSam and explained to him what solution I was using and why I was using it.
Dialog over with, right? No. My response to SavageSam then elicited two additional responses from two different posters, one was gregsmith7467 and the other was Mark. Thus, I then responded to gregsmith7467 and to Mark.
Dialog over with, right? No. Mark then responded to me a second time and thus I responded in turn back to Mark.
Dialog over with, right? No. SilverShadow then jumps into the fray by castigating me for having the audacity to respond to Mark, gregsmith7467, and SavageSam, and also by reiterating an absurd old rumor that has been going around the trucking industry for ages. Thus, since I was trying to escape from this thread as gracefully and quickly as possible, I ignored his castigation of me but at the same time felt I must address his repeating of that ridiculous and absurd old rumor.
Which brings us back to now where SilverShadow has again responded back to me not by addressing that ridiculous and absurd rumor that he was repeating and in which I had addressed in my response to him, but by castigating me once again for having the audacity to respond to SavageSam, gregsmith7467, and Mark in this thread. Don't worry, I want give myself the brain damage by dignifying him with a response or I will never be able to get out of this miserable thread.
And then now we have you interjecting yourself into the fray by attempting to castigate me for mentioning another alternative solution I mentioned in response to a request from SavageSam, and never mind the fact that I have been trying to exit this thread since the first post I ever made. Thus, I'm just going to tell you to mind our own #### business.
Now, I hope I can finally bow out of this absurd thread gracefully. I never intended for it to ever come to this and indeed if I had known beforehand what I was getting myself into, I never would have even open this god-forsaken thread.Last edited: Apr 16, 2010

In talking with one of the staff of this website, they noted that this thread started as a discussion thread and slowly turned into a support thread.
So we have one of two choices. Either leave this a as a discussion thread with anybody allowed to discuss the pro\cons of any type of navigation unit or anyother type of navigation software..... or strictly keep this as a support thread.
Now I can start another thread that DEALS strickly with support of the TND 500/700 and future products that Rand McNally may introduce to the market. If this happens I will strickly be on that thread and not be responding quickly to posts left in this orginal thread.
I am not here to compare the pro/cons of other navigation units and or software. I am here to support as a "middle" person the TND from Rand McNally allowing you the driver or user a direct means of getting your issues or concerns directly to Rand.
Unless the TND is just plain broke or has hardware issues I can get any other issues resolved. I can redo the OS, Firmware and software.
So do we want this as a discussion or support thread?
Thanks,
MarkLast edited: Apr 16, 2010

This thread is way too large for anyone to really read/manage.
Whatever happens, I think it should be closed and something new started....

The SD slot holds a SD Card in the T5B model, this contains your Maps and voices software. In the T5C and the T7C the SD slot is empty as all the files that were on the external SD Card were moved internally to the internal flash. So on the T5C and the T7C do not try to put an SD/Micro SD card in the TND to view pictures, play music or videos. The slot is active but only for the purpose of being an external active slot.
As to your weight, length, and height. If you are still a student or have just completed your training time with your trainer and he did not pass this knowledge onto you, then I suspect you did not get trained very well.
The basic -
80,000 lbs - gross you are allowed legally without a permit. Each of your loads will be different. Most tractors\trailers empty run about 32k. I would sugest the next time you are empty to go accross a CAT scale to get your empty weight. You will need to know that in case you get a load and the weight of the load plus your empty weight will take you over gross. Also have full tanks when you do an empty weigh. Fuel is about 8 lbs per gallon.
Length - Most trailers are 53' long, now you have pups, 30' and 48' trailers. It depends on what your company has bought and uses. But 53' is the norm.
height - Trailers this side of the river (Eastern) are allowed 13'6" maxium unless you are permitted. The western side of the river are allowed 13'6" and 14' trailers. The reason are less lower overpasses on the western side of the river. If your company has 14' trailers and you are running the eastern side of the river be aware their are overheight detectors at the scales. You may or may not get a ticket. Your tractor if it has the double bunk is normally 13'6". If your trailer is 14' you will notice the difference and put a BIG posty note on your dash to remind you that you are 14' now... or the first 13'6" bridge you will find out. I would get a tape measure and when you are empty measure the height. Some Pete's can be 13'7" when empty and 13'6" when loaded.
As the new driver in your truck it is up to you to know all the details about your height\weight\length. Talk to O\O's at truck stops and see what the basics you need for tools. Have them show you what to look for in a PTI, and YES do those PTI's... light burned out - replace it immed. How you drive reflects to the motoring public the Truck drivers image. Be always aware of your situation awareness. Remember your blind spots.
Thanks,
Mark -
I would suggest that if I was going to make a choice, I would personally want to view the TND 700 in person and compare. The TND 700's are being shipped to truck stops. When they get their display up and running is up to the store's. If you are passing through NC around Statesville (I-77\I-40) I would be more than happy to stop by one of the three truck stops and let you see the TND 700.
Thanks,
Mark -
i think if a new thread can have
FAQ
new issues
tips
...
sub threads
it will help new users, i cannot read all, i only check last page,
if i miss a week, i don't go back to read, my life only move forward.

I would suggest having a thread that deals strictly with support, faq's, tips and similar. I would also ask that Mark to be able to move posts from that thread to the general discussion thread so the support thread not get bogged down with needless pages of gibberish and troll activity. Of course this ability to move posts among threads within the same product group should be afforded to other mfg's and devices such as other nd's, smartphones or whatever.
