It's a fair argument, cause I did have an incident last year where a shipper at a DC had my ICC bumper latched at their loading dock and I was running out of hours. They refused to release me and we did have to call up our county sheriff's office to respond to a trespassing complaint to get me unlatched. I am all but positive that we lost the account after that incident. I haven't seen a pickup from them since.

If it did I would’ve told them goodbye and left anyway.
What you have there is a perfect description of why most every move I make is planned around a quick escape. After the freight’s signed for I make it a point to be gone within 5-10 seconds. That minimizes the chance for just the sort of last instant stupidity you described.Gearjammin' Penguin, Trucker61016, misterG and 4 others Thank this. -
I had an issue similar. I started charging them sort and seg for every piece they counted and inspected. Didn’t take long for them to just give me a name so I could leave.

"You aren't going anywhere"
Signed DR? "See ya"
Unsigned DR? "See ya", pull over to a safe place and write on the DR "Shrink wrap in tact, consignee refused to sign".
Screw that noise, no consignee determines my ability to leave. Take it up with the shipper that paid the company.Trucker61016, misterG, road_runner and 2 others Thank this. -

Heh, take a picture of the pallets sitting in their warehouse, put "Receiver refuses to sign" on the bill, and beats feet.

When you close out a delivery you are done with it and there is no way to pull it back up (at least not with my company) Even if the receiver finds damages a minute later as you are leaving, there is nothing you can do except to tell them to call up their shipper.
All this did was leave a really bad taste in my mouth. From now on as soon as they sign I will jump straight into my truck and leave. I'll close out the delivery or pickup at my next stop. It's a stupid lesson that I relearned the hard way.
I managed to make all my deliveries that day but I lost so much time that I caught my last stop walking to her car in the parking lot. She was shaking her head going "had I not need this shipment first thing in the morning, I would have send you on your way. Back in and I will reopen the dock".Trucker61016, Texas_hwy_287, misterG and 4 others Thank this.
