Oh, where to begin about today...

First on my way to work this morning I see some linehaul idiot from probably Richmond not only running with just DRLs at zero dark thirty, but one of them was out.

My dispatcher left early, so I wound up having to deal with the stupid one. He cancels my last pickup because they told me it wouldn’t be ready until 1700. That won’t work, since I’m a hundred miles from the yard and I start at 0600. We’ll get it monday if you don’t give it to somebody else first.

    Besides, it’s flatbed garbage anyway.

Next, 45 minutes later I’m 30 miles and 2 counties away on my way home, and I get sent a pickup right next door to the place I just left. I saw that, busted out laughing, and said to myself “and he wonders why I think he’s an idiot”. I sure as hell am not turning around and going back that far to pick up 1 skid, especially on a friday.

And finally, when I’m dropping my trailer, one of the local doofuses pulls in. He’s got bulk hazmat on board flying just the ID placards, but instead of putting the placards in the slide in holders where they’re supposed to be, he had them over the folding packs with just the four tabs holding them.

    Oh, how the stupid abounds...:biggrin_25513:

I figure that would take until dispatchers are taught to grow a pair and stop listening to all the whiny 3PLs, which might be a day or two before “never”.

I actually saw that on the road today for the first time ever. I did a double take. I couldn't believe it was holding there in place. Must've had tape on it or maybe the driver put a sticker one on there.

Another good one I've only ever seen once is someone running UN# placards that were rotated 90 degrees so that the number was vertical instead of horizontal. You had to tilt your head to the left to read the number. At first I thought it was only the tail one as I was coming up to pass but then I saw it was on his left side and also on the nose of the trailer. Unbelievable.

    What's a 3PL?

I get the basic concept, but what does it stand for?

I left the barn late with a bunch of liftgate stops that would have been impossible to make.

Miraculously I got half of my work done when I decided it's 4:30 PM, I have a two hour drive home, and I want to beat rush hour traffic in downtown Charleston. As I concluded my last stop, I noted a Traeger grill in the back of the trailer. A residential I could dig out with my pallet jack. I've always wanted one and kinda smiled at the prospect of delivering this thing to someone before the Memorial Day weekend.

I bit the bullet and said to myself that I am going to make this guys' day and bring it to his house. Worst case scenario I'd get stuck in traffic but would rack up some much needed OT. I went thirty minutes against the outbound traffic but figured it would be worth it.

It was a gated community of course so I pulled into the median lane to contact this fellow to:
    A. Figure out if he is even home
    B. Give me the guard shack protocol on getting in, or better yet, just come out and escort me in.

I called and he picked up "good evening, my name is R/R and I am a delivery driver for USF Holland. I am looking for a Mr LG in regards to a delivery. I am calling this number because it was listed on the BoL for the following address......"

He didn't even let me finish my sentence and just cut in

    - Who you with?

"USF Holland, I have a delivery for your residence and I just wanted to...."

    - Don't know ya, don't care to know ya.
    *CLICK*

Dude... What the ######### ######?!? I am sitting here in the median during rush hour traffic trying to bring a Traeger grill to your house and you hang up on me? There is not a SINGLE person on this forum reading this post that wouldn't be absolutely ECSTATIC to hear my voice on the other line letting you know I am bringing you a Traeger grill. Hell, I'd be skipping out of the house, across the driveway and into my car to come and meet you!

I am like fuming pissed at this point. Maybe it's the fact that this is the first time I've been hung up on in 20 years since an ex from high school. Or maybe it was because I went way out of my way and adding insult to injury; had to deal with the realization that I would now have 40 additional minutes of travel time to get home.

After gaining my composure I made a second phone call. This time the jerk made it go to voicemail.

"Good evening, my name is R/R and I am a delivery driver for USF Holland. I am trying to reach a Mr LG in regards to a delivery of a Traeger grill to the personal residence located on 123 Sunset Boulevard on Daniel's Island here in Charleston SC. This is my second and final attempt to get in contact with you to set up a delivery. Seeing how we got disconnected and you are unable to reach your phone, we are returning your item back to your shipper located in Appling Wisconsin. Please contact your shipper at your earliest convenience so they can give you a new delivery window."

10 minutes later my phone explodes from the same number. I am too pissed and too far out of the area to answer.

30 minutes later my dispatcher calls me and tells me the residential is in dire need of his freight and asked me if there is anything I can do to turn around.

"This guy blew me off, told me he wasn't interested, hung up on me, then refused to answer his phone on the second time around. You know what he can do? He can go out and pound sand, that is what he can do. I want you to tell him this if he calls you again. I am already too far out of town".

Guess who isn't going to be entertaining his friends this Memorial Day weekend on their brand new Traeger smoker grill?

    LG.
