I gave up on that stupidity last week. What it used to be was we keep YRC and Holland freight separate. Then it went to mix it up.

Last week I finally gave up. Rode in empty and a customer was not sure what to do with his freight. I am sick and tired of calling dispatch to figure out what I am picking up, only to get yelled at by management three hours later cause my stupid parent company was supposed to grab the crap that was already on my trailer.

Customer gave me his spiel about "well, this is yellow and YRC, but we like Holland".

"Good sir, and I do say good sir. I'm not gonna argue with you, we appreciate your business and we do not, and I do say; we do not discriminate against your freight. I take yellow, YRC Holland, Reddaway, New Penn... Hell, I will take FedEx and those rascals at Old Dominion. If it fits it ships mister"

Bump the home terminal, clock out, and ignore any calls on my way home

Oh, I just love that crap, especially when I’m rolling out of town and it’s one of the usual offenders that calls in pickups at the last minute so I have to turn around and go back. :biggrin_25510:

At one of those kind of places yesterday I had to sit for 90 mins because Pitt Ohio beat me in there by 5 mins to pick up a full load, which was one reason I wound up working so late.

I went inside, signed the BOL, tracked down the freight and pro’d it, and then went back out to the truck to take a nap. Some time later, one of the office idiots came out and said “you pro’d the wrong BOL!!”

Um, no. It was the one YOU put in the bin that has our name on it.

If there’s one thing I truly hate, it’s disorganization. :biggrin_25510:

So. Dayton buys Valley Cartage, 2 weeks later I'm getting half full line hauls.

Because customers are jumping ship. Dayton wants 120 a pallet. And not everyone wants to pay extortion rates.

Upside is, my direct freight shipments have gone up, and I'm getting Linehaul requests from another partner carrier.

    The freight goes somewhere.

That's one of the stupidities that plagues my company with their dumb merger. They reinvent the wheel and ruin brand recognition, then act all shocked when customers jump ship cause they don't trust us or are pissed about rate increases.

Dayton knows how to run a company, though, and pays its workers pretty well.

Those companies can get what they're willing to pay for elsewhere.
