We got this new hire man….
He told me he has forklift experience, but the dude changes a forklift tank without gloves….
The tank starts to leak when he starts screwing it back on, and instead of getting me or outbound management he continues to screw it on barehanded giving himself frostbite.
don’t even get me started on how he cant read an invoice too!
I was watching him load a truck, and I asked him “where’s that pallet going? What city?” Because I’m familiar with our customers freight and it didn’t look like it belonged in that trailer - he responds with “ uh don’t kno”. Dummies loading crap into random trailers…
I’ve trained him, managements trained him, and our now retired Linehaul driver trained him - dude just isn’t getting it.
Oh, takes/took him 30mins to pre trip and hook up and he breaks down at the stop sign in the industrial park outside the terminal gate.misterG, JoeyJunk, Texas_hwy_287 and 3 others Thank this. -
He pulled out onto the street and called breakdown. It got fixed then by a very upset parts changer.Jubal Early Times, Speed_Drums, misterG and 10 others Thank this. -
Finally the saga is over. Agreement between UPS and Teamsters has been reached.
“We’ve Changed the Game”: Teamsters Win Historic UPS ContractTexas_hwy_287, LtlAnonymous, JoeyJunk and 2 others Thank this. -
I love how people assume if UPS strikes other companies will take up their customers/volume.
upper management at cooper always states when union carrier go on strike their customers wont flood our system.
Stay loyal to those that help you keep the lights on; when UPS freight went on strike I had to tell tons of customer “will get it if we can but it’s not a priority”.misterG, Texas_hwy_287 and LtlAnonymous Thank this. -
Transferred from a hub back to my original EOL center to the city p&d. Was running road at a hub and they probably cut at least 20 bids over the past 2 years. Had almost 15 guys below me and I couldn’t even hold a bid, and that’s with 6 above me on furlough. I got to run day linehaul a couple weeks and didn’t like it. Something about driving all day seems like the truck is going 30 MPH. Plus leaving my house at 7:15 am and getting home at 8:30 pm isn’t any better than nights IMHO. I enjoyed driving at night but the lifestyle sucks! I’m really enjoying city work. I run out of an area that’s mostly country cruising. Biggest town we service has a population of about 30k. Customers are all laid back and like to talk s*it. I got cut loose today solo and ran 8 deliveries and 7 pickups in 9 hours. Of course all of the deliveries were places I’ve never been too but I just kept a positive attitude and didn’t hit anything lol. I am very familiar with the area which helps a lot. Took a pay cut but being miserable for money isn’t worth it. Beers taste better on Friday nights than on Saturday mornings! lol

The daytime traffic is no joke! My run has me hitting both the AM and PM rush hour, working more hours per week on a 550mi AM bid than I was on a 600mi PM bid.
The sweet spot is in the runs that start really early, but I don’t have the seniority to get those and I don’t know if I even want to get up that early. I’m trying a different AM bid starting in a few weeks to see if it’s any less stressful. -
I got a call at 11:00 last night from the linehaul dispatcher wanting me to run to Ohio today. Can’t do it today because I’m too close on book time, so now that’s what I get to spend tomorrow doing.

What does that do to your normal p&d schedule?? -
