My meet driver came in with a heavy rocky set. Before I left, he told me to scale it cause when he came over, all the scales were closed. Just for ##### and giggles, I ran it over the terminal scale. Turns out my front box tail tandems were at 36K. Had to break the set and get the dock crew to take some freight off.

Called up my travel agent and told them I was over and they are working the trailers. I had close to 80 bills on both trailers... needless to say, neither my home terminal nor my dispatchers were happy that I was extending my stay at my turnpoint.

"But R/R, the scale on your way back is closed, and you could take an alternate route".

Sorry dudes... you guys threw me under the bus one too many times in the past. I am not running illegal on your behalf anymore. If you want me to run the "alternate" route which adds 45 minutes to my trip, I will... once ALL my axles legal. Deal with it.

Got an extra hour of wait time.

I know that feeling. My trucks rated for 50k and at times they got it 50k without the truck. Normally means I get to use something nicer

Did that to me too once. I told them as long as they gave me an extra 250 bucks and fought the ticket in court for me. Needless to say they took the extra weight off.

Yeah. As soon as I get caught being over, they will come right back at me going "oh why didn't you take some weight off? Why did you go out of route?". Seriously... Our dispatchers are so scheissty. If we depart a terminal with a working scale and we get caught being overweight, the ticket will be on us regardless what dispatch told us to do.

Either way they yell at you. I'd rather be yelled at and be legal to protect yourself, others and license

Man, I'm thankful FXF doesn't try to pull that overweight nonsense. If it's not legal, it doesn't leave the yard until it is.

What difference would that make? They can't force you to do anything that's not legal.

I can't speak for Fedex in this regard, but this is one area where my company's safety department proves to be useful for more than just looking for reasons to revoke a driver's safety bonus. They will back you when faced with this situation.

Of course not, but that doesn't mean companies won't try--see RR's post above. Here, they don't even try, not in the slightest. If it's overweight, there's no argument, no "alternate route" wink wink nudge nudge, no "the scales are closed anyway", no having to get Safety involved, no nothing. It gets dealt with, and the driver gets zero hassle about it.

Exactly. The terminal scale clearly said 36,200 lbs for my tail tandems. I can not believe I was on the phone having an argument about it. Big safety billboard inside the terminal clearly says: ALL LOADS LEAVING THIS TERMINAL WILL BE SCALED.

Why even put that out there if they just want to give you the old "wink-wink" and tell you to run anyway. My CDL and driving record, not theirs. I will not knowingly break the law. Not to get their loads back faster. Just one more reason why I am quitting.
