Random LTL Rants (all are welcomed)

I agree I thought it was at one point. Just waiting for the start date. You will be buried in the maroon uniform. I'm giving you my shirts when I leave

 

I have driven local, line and OTR. I still like OTR the best and I hate slip seating!!! I never had to slip seat when I ran OTR and I had a kick but truck! The thing was decked out and topped out at 80 mph. They let us put inverters, big ol radios, etc. just like we were owner operators. I had a blast out there but I did miss the wife and kids sometimes. It was a dedicated account so that was pretty nice, I always knew where I was going and had a rough estimate when I'd be there and get home. Regular OTR was fun too, especially when I had my own truck.

My rant today is my TM pissed me off and we got into a fight. My piece of junk Volvo broke down (one of the newer ones) and he acted like it was my fault! So we fought for a while and I told him he should get us better equipment. His response was too bad. That's all.

 

DOOD! YOU BROKE YOUR TRUCK! That is very, I say VERY "un-cool35!" Of COURSE it is your fault. It is ALWAYS the driver's fault! In case of question, remember rule #1: IT IS ALWAYS THE DRIVER'S FAULT!

So, I was told (jokingly, I guess) that I was a troublemaker today.

Get to a restaurant (I do food delivery, full size 48 foot trailer, no wimpy single axles here, although today I did have a day cab, which helps). I pull up, never been there before and say "where do the guys usually park?

Oh, they park over there on the other side of the building, where we put cones.

Cool, I walk around the building and say "sorry, not comfortable with that (too many cars in way, no cars, no issues)"

Well, you can't park here (I have no idea why, but whatever), Ok how about over there in that grocery center parking lot (remember, I'm bringing them the food right to their back door, it's me doing the extra work not them). Uhhhh, ok.

I pull over there, get the first two wheeler loads off, wheel them over and they say "we need you to move your truck over here"

No

apparantly they were calling the office because my phone rang right away "why can't you park there? the regular guy gets in there (so they say). Yeah, tough, good for him, it's not enough space, it's not happening" I'ts my license and preventable accident, it's not happening. You can fire me if you want, but my record will still be clean and I"ll be employed tomorrow, and you still won't have your delivery." I really wanted to tell snot nosed fast food manager "here's the keys, you make it happen" but I didn't.

I just started delivering and of course they took it. The big boss of the whole center asked me what the deal was when I got in and told me "well we back our drivers 100%, it's about safety and if you don't feel comfortable, don't do it" and apparantly corporate fast food backed down after hearing the words "safety"

Seriously, what do you (customer) care where I park as long as you get your delivery and it doesn't require any extra work from you??????

 

oh yeah, third trip in a row I red tagged a trailer (light out on this one). Really? does anyone do anything besides pencil whip inspections?

 

Good for you! The company brass needs at least a few troublemakers to keep their blood pressure up where it belongs!

You will always have a few customers that try that crap of "well why can't you, everybody else does." Stick to your guns if it is a safety issue. As you pointed out, it is your license you are protecting.

I wouldn't be surprised if that fast food manager used to drive a truck. And got canned. . .

 

Well its official. Just 2 1/2 weeks till I'm retiring from trucking. Still need my CDL for next job but it really isn't considered trucking. Can't wait to start that gig. Its hard to get as well.

I'll still be around to stalk and harass everyone though

 

Whatcha gonna be doin? And I'm glad you're still gonna be around here. Just 'cause a person isn't trucking any more, doesn't mean they can't come in for the fellowship!
