That fella is still around here, Numerous user names and many bans. He worked for UPSF not UPS.

Of course, having cold rain and snow blow into your face, and soak your clothes, should help you to stay awake! -

Having a hell of a time running chains while doing P&D. In one month, I already burned up three sets. One delivery location sucks specifically. This dude has a storage garage that sits at the top of a 9% gravel hill. He only has one access point that requires me to back up this hill with tire chains. On average 2K lbs pallet of coffee syrup and beans. All liftgate since he has no forklift. On average this delivery takes me an hour and a half. Starting to wonder if it would be easier to break his stupid pallet down and handcarry it into his garage.
Only upside to this city I deliver to is that almost all the guys up there are cool and easy to work with. Meh... culinary school or a job track for being an MCS officer look much more appealing than what they did last year. -
Don't envy you at all RR. When we have Residential / Commercial stupid crap like that ( schools wanting 10 skids of rock salt ) , We send out a 26' box truck with a lift gate. It's a Ryder straight truck and looks like a Independent contractor showing up in ABF garbs lol
Your company should have some straight trucks available to do this questionable safety hazard/ potential damaging fleet equipment.road_runner and Big Don Thank this. -
Shaggy beat me to it! There is no way you should be dealing with that stop with a trailer when it is snowy and icy. Talk to your safety department about it!
The only time I ever ran into a similar situation, was with a straight flatbed. I was delivering HVAC/Plumbing supplies to a house that was under construction. We had one of our very few snowy days in St. George, and I just couldn't make it up the grade of the driveway. I had no tire chains. I called the contractor and gave him the choice of meeting me on the street and packing the stuff into his pickup, (which would have been interesting since I had several sticks of low head,) or waiting until the driveway melted off in a day or so. We compromised by him coming down and picking up what he could carry in the pickup, and then leaving the low head beside the street. I neither knew nor cared how he got that up there, but it wouldn't surprise me if he had some of his laborers pack it up by hand! Better them, than me.road_runner Thanks this. -
Here is a rant: I just completed a delivery to an unmarked business. Lady asked me to come inside where it was nice and warm. Got into their office, aside from the Buddhist decor, I was immediately struck by an overwhelming smell of sweet smoke. I looked around and saw a hash pipe sitting on her desk. I excused myself real fast to tailgate the crate. Their forklift was dead so I had to use my lift gate. I asked one of the guys that was helping me with the crate what kind of business it was. "We grow medicinal marijuana ...basically this is a pot farm".
Ohhh... That makes sense. Delivery was all but completed when my lift gate took a crap on me. At 2° F the batteries tend to not hold a charge. Now sitting at the weed farm waiting for a wrecker.
Not a happy camper since I still have seven drops and one pending pickup.Shaggy Thanks this. -
And just watch, today is the day your name will be drawn for a "random." And you can try to convince everybody that you were NOT smoking it!
How many times have we seen THIS whine on here? But I'll admit this is the first time I ever saw it "in advance of a failed test!"
You sure your failed lift gate won't be looked at as an "accident" that will require testing? What's the phone number of your company, think I'll "drop a dime" on ya!
I sincerely hope you take the above BS in the light-hearted manner in which it was written!road_runner and Shaggy Thank this. -
yeah, it would be faster to wheel it in.
