@LoneCowboy Your trailer probably has a ramp, and you are probably used to it. I suck with our crappy handcarts that they give us. Most of which have large chunks of tire missing out of them and make better wheel chocks than anything.

P&D sucks. But it sucks even more when you have to work with unkept equipment and tools that are more valuable as scrap metal.

And yeah, I am complaining about my job again. There were many days where I was left unattended in the back of a customer's warehouse filled with expensive TV sets, whiskey, and computers... And the only thing I was tempted to steal was one of their pallet jacks or hand trucks.

Oh man, RR! I can readily identify with that! Maybe even a decent fork lift!

    actually they have liftgates
    occasionally they even work.
Sometimes the trailers (or trucks) might even pass a lazy pre-trip. But not often. My hand trucks are locked up each night and I put pink duct tape all around them so they don't get stolen. (by other drivers, tried to happen to me once, but I caught him and it happened to another driver the other day)

The job is actually pretty good when the equipment works. But it's getting to be so #### rare that I wonder why I even show up.

You're supposed to call in every day. But every day it's the same thing: "we're not done yet (and it doesn't matter when I call) we'll call you back."
So how about we save us both some time and you call when you're done. I"m not calling in anymore. The other day they finally called at 5:30pm (yes really, after I came in at noon off a route) and said we want you to leave at 2am. (which means i have to be there at 1am and it takes me an hour to get there). I refused. I'm doing a whole lot more refusing lately. I'm to the point of not caring anymore. (just like everyone else).

Our company motto: "eff you, I got mine"

The thing about equipment is that it is just not taken care of. Hand trucks are left behind at a customer, or run over on the dock by a fork lift. Pallet jacks and fork lifts are never serviced. Employes don't give a "POOP," because management doesn't care enough about them to give them good equipment. Management doesn't give a "CRAP" because those dog gone employees won't take care of anything. It is a vicious spiral that goes down hill.

Eventually, old equipment is broke beyond repair, or lost. Or stolen. (Or buried in a dumpster under other trash, so management doesn't see it in there.) When the equipment inventory gets down to having ONE pallet jack for a dozen drivers, and ONE hand truck for a dozen drivers, then, (maybe) the company decides to buy some new equipment. So they buy the cheapest they can find. And never maintain it. And the employee sees this and doesn't give a "POOP" and management sees this. . . .

    And the cycle continues.

One outfit I worked for bought a brand new yard dog. A VP delivered it to the yard it was slated for. Before he left the yard, he was hearing employes griping that it wouldn't "go fast enough!"

We had a pallet jack that a fork broke on. (NO IDEA who did that, or HOW they did it, but it would sure be interesting to know.) So they took it back to our shop and welded the fork back on. At enough of an angle that it wouldn't fit under a pallet.

They took our hand trucks, and welded the company name on the lip, making it impossible to slide it under a stack of freight, and quite difficult to get out from under a load. And then they wonder why "employees don't take care of equipment.":biggrin_25513:

Called in as in called "in sick"? They give us five paid sick days. Don't bother using them if you are the lowest man on the totem pole. The more seniour guys will always be sicker... Especially if it falls on a Monday or Friday.
