Do you regret leaving LTL and going O/O? I can't stop thinking about doing such thing.

The more I think about what happened to you, the happier I am with my carrier. I was actually contemplating jumping ship with FxF (if only they would hire me). Now I am too nervous about probing the water anywhere else. My total dock time for all of last year was maybe around 30 hours at the very most. It usually revolved around adding/removing a pallet to a trailer, or slinging freight into a different trailer after I found a flat tyre during my pretrip (and only because all the dockworkers were gone).

I actually get treated really well now that I think about it. Unless they do something drastic like laying me off or cutting my pay in half, I will stay with my company as a happy linedriver.

Yeah, no kidding. I roll in around 5 AM, ready to fuel (I get paid 1/4 of hourly pay for it). As I pull in, I see columns of trucks sitting there idling and I remind myself "No matter how long and crappy my day was, I am about to be done with my shift, take a hot shower and sleep in my own bed". I always turn off all my lights and keep my rpms low as I pass them.

Sad thing is, I probably make close to double as what they make. I don't understand how they can do it for weeks at a time.

Edit: Again, I only do line. I also feel for the P&D guys that have to deal with much of the labour intensive work. But at least some of them have a more or less normal life/sleep schedule.

Brother, some of us don't care about sleep schedule or have family to worry about. Dedicated to the job and finding ways to work smarter not harder ( don't tell my stupidvisor)

Do my crap and go the muck home. No collecting hours here ( my time same as yours OFF DUTY is priceless )

Brother, seriously don't wonder about us fools, we do just fine :)

Yup... true. You have to be dedicated to this job. Especially when you run nighttime line. I had to set up an online dating profile (don't judge me!!!) cause I don't have the time anymore to go out and meet people. I took Oi!'s advice about finding someone that also works nights.

My profile reads: "Married to my job as a LTL linedriver. Work 50-70 hours a week moving crap around the region. Looking for a registered nurse on night shift (aka sugar mama) so I can eventually quit. Have no hobbies since I don't have time. I am an excellent driver and hold the company record for most deer strikes in a 12 month period (six). Available Sundays and most Mondays... unless my dispatcher feels like being a jerk by putting me on standby. Please respond with photo"

    No responses so far.
