Sorry, just saw your new post saying Chicago as I posted mine. Yep, business is booming for O.D. They are the fastest growing LTL company right now.

From what I've heard you need to go to the terminal in person to put in an app. You might wanna call Indy and see if that's required. I guess they don't do the online app thing. Not sure if they'd let you put one in at a different terminal than the one you want to work at.

You have to apply in person at a terminal. I'm not sure what the procedure would be for your situation. My best suggestion would be to contact the HR rep in Indy and explain it to her. Could be that they will let you do your application at the Chicago terminal for an Indy position. You would probably have to drive down to Indy if they call you for an interview.

Indys not too far. So I would be willing to go down for the app and then the interview. Then hopefully the road test and paperwork. Im hoping no more than 3 trips. But if it takes more, it would be worth it in the long run. Seems like a great job and ill be closer to both sides of the family. Im just more concerned that I wont have an indiana license, so that would stop me.

This might sound cheesy as hell, but I had a delivery at a DoT snowplow barn. After I got them their freight I took a quick moment to thank them for everything they do for us. They work long hours at random times just to keep the roads clear for us.

Those guys are under funded, underpaid, and under appreciated.

Shouldn't be too hard to transfer your cdl to Indiana. They contact your current state to verify your license, then you have to take a general knowledge test, and hazmat test if you have that endorsement. Looks like a new background check too...

    From in.bmv.gov:

"You must meet all requirements to transfer a base license and pass the general knowledge written tests to transfer a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) to Indiana. If you have a hazardous materials endorsement on your current CDL you will be required to pass that knowledge test and have acceptable threat assessment approval to be issued the endorsement on an Indiana license."

I bet they would let him drive on his Illinois license until he jumps through all the hazmat hoops and gets his license transferred to his new home state. After all, there are several major cities (St. Louis, Cincinnati, Kansas City, etc.) that are on state lines and have drivers commuting across those borders to their terminals. I'd call the terminal about that.

Every one of those guys is ALWAYS one snowstorm away from being fired.

So no, that wasn't "cheesy" at all. :)

I am so close to calling it quits. My boss exploded on me the other day. We were down to a linetruck that just came back from the shop after being involved in a brake fire.

No fire extinguisher and a emergency triangle was missing (we did not have spare fire extinguishers). To top it off, it did not have any IFTA stickers.

My boss threatened to have me terminated if I refused to drive the truck. I was happy to remind him that I have DoT on speed dial and will have them put my truck out of service the moment I cross out of the gate. My standoffs are starting to get more frequent and more aggressive. I think I should leave.

Leaving would be a good idea RR! No sense in giving yourself an ulcer, (or allowing some a whole boss to do it for you.) Also good to leave before you do something stupid and get hauled off to jail...

    I'm inclined to agree.

Or at the very least, get the safety dept involved.

Of course, that has a tendency to lead to the proverbial bullseye on your back.
