Their hazmat crate was still sitting there when I picked up the other stuff. The cardboard box had regulation sized diamonds glued onto it. They would pretty much have to rebox it to send it out. But as you said earlier... If they falsify what they declare on their BoL it wouldn't make a difference if they sent hazmat or ten kilos of cocaine. The shipper would be 100℅ liable .. hence why you have to have a shipper certification at the bottom.
I still think it is complete bullspit that they would suggest removing legal markings that show the product can be dangerous/health hazard in case of an accident.
I am half tempted in calling these guys in tomorrow

Certainly true of the HR depts I've been trying to reach lately. You'd think they'd talk to people who want to work instead of hiding from them. Or maybe I'm on a parallel planet.
road_runner, I think that shipping guy comes from a family line that scampers up trees and buries nuts in the ground. Purebred example.Big Don, road_runner and Mike2633 Thank this. -
Leeland James at CF wouldn't have put up with the way things work today that's for sure.

I didn't have very many no-goes and never had them more than once. I guess everybody is allowed a screwup now and then.
But what used to drive me batschidt crazy, was one large account we had, that would call for a "rush" pickup, then keep you waiting for them to finish crating up their products. I've waited as long as almost two hours for them to get it together, with my boss driving me nuts, telling me on the one hand that I had to wait for it, but on the other hand, calling every five minutes on the Nextel to see if "They are ready yet!"
Give me a freaking break here, if they WERE ready, I'd be calling you and confirming that I was loaded and rolling.
Mike2633 Thanks this. -
Used to pick up at a battery manufacturer in GA all the time. Not my normal route but when the normal guy that ran it was out from a car wreck I ran it for about two months straight.
The shipping guy had no clue how to mark hazmat or do a proper bol. AT A BATTERY PLANT! I refused to pick up unmarked batteries and all I got was "the other guy always took it." I had a conversation with his supervisor about it then had a conversation with my supervisor about it. Never saw that guy again and my barn started emphasizing proper marking and bol for hazmat.
It's unbeleivable how much stuff goes through the system unmarked or incorrect because people don't get the info on how to do it properly.Gearjammin' Penguin, texasbbqbest, Mike2633 and 2 others Thank this. -
I had one stop where I had to educate the store GM about batteries. When we brought batteries to them, they were dry, therefore not hazmat. Of course the chemical was hazmat.
For some reason, he just couldn't, (or wouldn't,) understand that return batteries had to be marked hazmat. It took a refusal on my part to let him load them, and a phone call from my boss to his district supervisor to convince him! And he STILL thought he was right and everybody else wrong! smhMike2633 Thanks this. -
In my scenario, the shipper I picked up from HAD a system in place to train people on how to ship hazmat. But for them they ship tractor trailer parts (and agriculture parts) and hazmat is just an occasional side shipment. Every single employee refused the training because they all knew how much federal regulations go with it... Along with the repercussions if something went wrong with the shipment and their signature was on the BoL.
Part of me wants to empathize with them... Nobody wants to get canned and fined over a quarterly/semi annual shipment that they rarely deal with. They should have the GM at least be certified. Bunch of BS how that place runs thingsMike2633 Thanks this. -
Nothing like when your day grinds to a halt thanks be to guaranteed shipments that are oversize.
Sitting at a grocery store that's changing hands. What a mess.
I hope this takes the rest of the day so I'll have 10 returns and not make any pickups.
May as well start calling the places on the back end of the route now to see how late they're open.road_runner, Mike2633 and Pintlehook Thank this.
