Makes it's tempting to go over... See if I'm single again lol. Chill out with a few beers and check out the bronco.

Actually mines a position for working on the tracks, signals blah blah blah. The trains we have are passengers which I really wouldn't want to engineer. I wouldn't mind freight but at the same time I'd like to be home every night with a more normal schedule. I can also change positions which is a huge plus

Not joking. I had the post up 15 minutes then edited it and went a 180 on sunday night. Weird crap dude. I applied for Norfolk Southern Few days ago, My grandfather and great grandfather both worked for Con-Rail. I'm not happy past few weeks. USPS turned me down( not surprised with the down sizing )and I will never work for Wally World as a fleet non wiggle wagons OTR driver, Nothing is tying to me down to start another career either. best of luck too you.

II really resent your comment. Go marry Operah... however the hell you spell that name. She is like a billionaire or something. Only way I would ever marry a chick that is over 180 lbs is if she was 6'5.... or had enough money to buy a Rolls Royce pickup truck. I should go scout out some cougars. meh

Just go to that college town and find some young drunk dumb girl. or some 400 pounder and who you kidding if some girl over 180 said shed blow you you would take it.

I applied to MTA shaggy. Looked into the cxs and Amtrak yards as well, no Norfolk southern by me. The state DOT is hiring by me as well, hours and days are better but pay is awful starting out. I can always return to towing cars and bartending part-time if needed on my time off.

Not a bad idea. my job doesn't allow me the time. I gotta scope out the "talent" in my local village of 1,500. yeah, the cattle and sheep outnumber us 20/1. I almost went the route to join the MCS. Then I came back to my senses and joined the other side of the industry. Good luck with your applications. I also considered going into the rail roads. We have Montana RailLink and some other guys that pass through. BNSF, I think they are just leasing the tracks though.

It seems to me that leaving UPS to go to a railroad would be like jumping from the frying pan into the fire. At least down here in the forty eight. Unless things have changed considerably in the past year or so, there is no railroad job other than the train crew, that is not being outsourced just as quickly as they can.

Now possibly to go to a train crew job might not be too bad. But I sure would take a good hard look before going to any other job with the railroad.

In fact, I was just informed this morning that an acquaintance was fired from a railroad because of having "too many injuries" that he reported. Of course they told him he could re-apply in a year or so. . .

It wouldn't be for engineering, it would be for other stuff like maintence and repairs etc.

So a coworker (linedriver) came back from a 400 mile turn. He was told to go do some local P&D. He said "I can't, I am almost out of hours, if I go now, I won't be able to run tonight".

They told him to do it anyway.

Long story short, he had to tell the line dispatcher he couldn't run when his name came up. He received a Letter of Reprimand for running out of hours ...from the same guy that sent him on the P&D run. Not sure why he signed it... but I call complete bullspit on this one.

Working in a small terminal seems they can pull crap like that. If they pulled that at my terminal I would of been like my title is Linehaul not P&D. They should asked instead of forced it. I would of did it if it was an option. They can't pull that at my term cause there's too much job competition of going else where. We can barely find a quality line driver cause other companies are paying better.
