Residual hazmat is what gets our guys in trouble when dealing with customers that normally don't ship empty hazmat containers. Anytime you see a hazmat sticker on the tote or cylinder, I usually stop and double check the BoL.

"But it's empty"

Nope... Sorry, I need to know what was in there.

Fortunately most of my customers know the drill and have everything filled out. Just these random customers that don't usually ship is what gets us.

If anyone is following this conversation. I want to elaborate on a post earlier.

Chief suspect when shipping empty hazmat containers are micro breweries. Being a home brewer myself, I have a much deeper understanding on what type of cleaning and sanitation agents they use. Below is a acid based SaniClean product intended to sanitize my brewing equipment to a food grade level.



Breweries on a larger scale will use plastic gaylords with the exact same compound. But due to their size, weight, and quantity, they have to be placarded as corrosive.



You absolutely can not pick these up unless the BoL reflects what was inside of this. Micro breweries usually don't ship out these totes so they don't know better. Just make sure you do your part and double check.
