Well, today was not a great day to take an empty 48' drop-frame van over the Bay Bridge to Annapolis. Oddly, it was much more windy on the ascent and descent then on the high part of the span. Definite lean visible in the mirrors. I will not ignore high-wind advisory again!

@road_runner , I will look through my old paperwork for RoadRunner PRO stickers. Was leased to them once upon a time, though I pulled a refrigerated wagon I did quite a lot of LTL/Multi pick/multi drop stuff. Not sure I have any but it's worth a look.

15 min paid for every d/h and fueling @ $26/hr. We pull vans, no doubles, so there's no making/breaking sets. Plus delay pay at our home terminal and dock time if we're delayed at a foreign terminal and are so inclined to hop on a forklift or sweep or whatever. I average 2,500 miles and 5.5 clock hours per week with minimal effort (no dock work).

Companies with doubles treat that differently. For instance, I believe OD pays "per pin" whereas Estes pays only to make/break sets, not to drop/hook vans.

Do I have that right, @Naptown & @TahoeTrucker ? What about you FedEx Freight and ABF guys?

Got a good one for ya. My father in laws Colt 1911. Manufactured in 1918. It still fires like a champ.

Pretty close. We generally get paid 4 hooks and 4 drops per set, but that can be adjusted on the Peoplenet if need be. If I pull my rear out of a door then drop it elsewhere to build the set, I claim 5 each. Relays where we simply swap sets are counted as 0. I've heard grumbles from other guys about that, but it's always from the drivers that think filling the DEF means they get to claim 2 fuels.

Interesting night last night. I got almost flashed in Illinois. A car pulled up next to the cab and the dome light flipped on. I look down, and the passenger is holding them up and jiggling for me. Kept covered though. Probably some Baptist girl that wanted the thrill of the risk without actually following through. I guess it was nice of her to think of me, but I kind of felt like Charlie Brown when Lucy pulls the football away.

Heading back from my drop, my brights picked up a large black form coming up out of the ditch with eyes looking in my direction. Scared me that I was seeing the Dog at first, but it was my first night back and I was as well rested as I'll ever be this week. The I got closer and saw what it was as I passed. Some farmer is probably discovering that his prize steer became hamburger a little early.

Interesting. Reddaway linehaul gets paid 30 min to hook/break doubles and 45 minutes to hook and break triples. It usually took me 15 min to hook doubles and 30 minutes to hook triples. I could do it even faster with a yard goat.

Only thing that sucks about that is if you get to a turn point with doubles then having to break only to have to hook a triples. You only get paid once and people will claim hooking triples and not breaking doubles (if that makes any sense). So realistically, you could come in with triples, have to break, then hook another triples but only get paid once. Final scenario is you swap a road train with your meet driver. We can still charge the company 45 minutes even though we never broke anything apart aside from switching out electrical cords.

It all evens out at the end of the week. I now work P&D and we get paid hourly. So I will literally take 30 minutes to hook doubles and 45 minutes to hook triples. No need to rush myself anymore.

Yep, no need to rush. If you do rush, management will see how you are getting stuff done faster than other drivers and transfer work from them onto you. Because ####ing your best employees instead of telling the bull ####ters to shape up or GTFO makes so much sense.
