We have guys that would slide theirs clear to the middle of the trailer if they had enough subframe.
I'm not riding around like that. Absolutely not.

Volvo ergonomics aren't for everyone. Personally, they work just fine for me, though it could be an acquired taste (I also like Sterlings, Macks and the odd Western Star, so...). Though, most of ours are devoid of clutch pedals, so that's an ergonomic non-issue for me.
On the trailer tandems, I typically leave them at the NY-mandated 41' mark, though if I'm going somewhere uncomfortable I'll put them to the front of the track. I've seen lots of folks lately riding around with their 53' trailer tandems clear to the rear, though...not sure what the motivation for that would be. That much wheelbase can't be any help maneuvering around the northeast, besides being illegal most places up here. -
When I have to drag a 53' doing P&D I slide the tandems all the way forward. Some places we go I need as tight of a turning radius as I can get.
Mike2633, augiedoggie41 and road_runner Thank this. -
Moving the tandems will tighten the turn radius... But you are way more likely to pinch your trailers and damage your pintle hook since the arse end of your long box will swing out faster and wider.Gearjammin' Penguin, Mike2633 and augiedoggie41 Thank this. -
Mike2633 and road_runner Thank this.

They have me in a 48' now, so I keep the center of mine roughly 10-11' from the back. Not a problem for someone who knows how to drive, and should accessibility become an issue, that's what we have straight trucks for.Mike2633 and augiedoggie41 Thank this. -
We are now assigned the same lift gate trailers. Problem is not all of our trucks have the auxiliary electical lines to charge the trailer battery. So every three days the same drivers have to get roadside assistance cause their liftgates won't move. We used to rotate out trailers between drivers. That way every trailer got charged two or three times a week... But nooooo...
Luckily my truck has that extra cable. -
Mike2633 Thanks this.

I had to push the wheels back for loading purposes the warehouse was nice and big maneuvering was not really a problem.
