Urgh... I work for a "small" multi million dollar company. I am kinda annoyed because they do not believe in a budget for company cell phones and instead give our personal cell phone numbers to all their customers.
Voicemails range from the curious about their freight to angry verbally abusive messages demanding their "stuff".
Anyone else having this issue? If not, what portion of my monthly phone bill should my employer cover?

Your employer is 100% dead wrong with OPSEC. You need to have a talk with the office people ASAP !
EDIT: I have no obligation to pick up my personal phone with work calling being off duty. I'm not on call, just because they pay for my bill i have to use several times a month. Pound sand !
Your employer should do the same !Last edited by a moderator: Nov 12, 2018

If they still give out my number then it's either quit, or if the job is good in every other respect, go buy a prepaid flip phone from walmart and change the number the company has.Shaggy Thanks this. -
The last company I worked for used to provide company phones. Then they decided that was too expensive and gave us a stipend to cover work use of personal phones. Fair enough.
They didn't give our numbers to customers, but the salespeople on our account had them and would constantly interrupt drivers with stupid calls. I had several heated discussions with pesky sales folk calling me during off duty time, and ended up blocking numbers. The terminal manager finally demanded all sales calls go to dispatch, who would make the decision to call us if necessary. It cut the pesky annoyances down to almost nothing.Gearjammin' Penguin, Mike2633, misterG and 1 other person Thank this. -
RR, suggest finding one of those Burner phone apps that lets you use multiple numbers on your phone, adding at least one, then tell the company you had to change your number because of all the angry calls interrupting your life, give them that burner number.
Then drop that number the first time you get a nasty call. Adopt another burner number and do it again, until you exhaust the office people who have to change it on all the employee paperwork.
You've been in abusive situations before, have fun with this one.
I'm running into this kind of thing with the current company who want me to put the ELD app on my phone. Nuh-uh.road_runner Thanks this. -

Google Voice is an option. But a little limited. They want you to keep the number so they can harvest data from your use of it, like who calls and for how long, etc.
I found the app I was thinking of...Burner - 2nd Phone Number App for Private Calls & Textsroad_runner Thanks this. -
Thanks again for the recommendation.speedyk Thanks this. -
I do use my own phone, including for my e-logs.
But only when I want to. I never give out my number to ANY customer. I always refer to the company 800# for response.
The ONLY time a dispatcher gave out my number I threw a holy screaming fit and it hasn't happened again.Mike2633, speedyk and road_runner Thank this.
