P&D it sure can be adventurous sometimes... Most of the senior city drivers at my barn are all grumpy and disgruntled. Some of them just can't wait to retire. 1 driver keeps saying everyday in the morning "1 more year and I'm done with this":D

Linehaul guys seem to be more relaxed and enjoy their job

misterG, Bob Dobalina and Mike2633 Thank this.

It just amazes me that the biggest PITA customers keep whining that they'll go to another carrier...as if that would be a threat and not a blessing.

That’s how it is at my place with the city guys. They all are old enough to be my dad and some my grandpa lol. This one guy called HR because his front plate had one zip tie and one bolt holding it on haha.

“They battled through the ages, but still neither force would yield.”-Rush Cygnus Book 1 Hemispheres 1978.

That was the theme today. It was a battle for the ages, but neither force would yield. I was cubed out 1029 cases for 20,800lbs.

It was a battle against time a battle of machine and man. Time ticks and customers, are waiting tick tick, volume high very high volume lots of places ordering “heavy”.

I was behind on time, but refused to yield and after a battle and some strategic moves 9 hours later I had all 20,800lbs off.

    Felt good.

Sitting here at this strange Ford Truck Dealership down the street from our drop
Lot getting an oil change done on my 1995 Ford. I don’t really like this place, I like the nice Lincoln Dealer I go to for routine service they are much nicer and more accommodating the problem was they were to busy and backed up made me sad.

My only complaint--and it is, all things considered, a very minor one--is that I don't make as much as I would on LH. But I drive through beautiful scenery, go to interesting places, deal with (usually) grateful customers, face challenges that keep my brain sharp and active, get good exercise, and go home to the love of my life every night. Sure, there are frustrations now and then, but on the whole, I've done way worse jobs for way less money.

Is my yard magical, or is it just my perspective? All I know is that I love my job, and the Lord has blessed me greatly with it.

i'm sitting here at home. After eating venison and burger hamburgers with my kids and wife and I'm seriously considering OTR.
What the heck is WRONG with me.

I couldn't do it. I spend way too much on the little I have. There's just no way I could be away from those things. I'd probably leave the industry before doing OTR. Not saying I am above it, but it's not for me.

    Bob Dobalina Thanks this.

    I hear ya.
My kids are about out of school. My wife is set in her career path, so am I (17 years in June).
OTR is something I haven't done.
