EXACTLY my point. I can trust a SCORPION or a SNAKE to defend itself or try to strike me. Mostly be cause I'm an idiot and would be too close to them.
But them "others" You just never know what they're gonna do.

Bark scorpions won't kill you either. Hurts like a mother for a while, though...

Anyone pretty familiar with road driver bidding and extra board at FedEx Freight? I have some questions that I’d like to pm someone about, since nobody at my terminal is able to be able to give me a straight answer. It seems like everyone just accepts whatever the dispatchers tell them, but I’d like to be a bit more informed than that.

Edit: I have looked through the driver manual and it’s still not entirely clear.

You might be at a barn that that just "wings it". Our Reddaway Montana barns had no formal bid system, everyone running linehaul just basically went where they were needed. Granted, most guys ran the same routes but everyone was considered extra board.

There’s definitely a bid system in place, but nothing is posted anywhere for drivers to look at and know where they stand. I’m basically just trying to figure out if there’s a cap on the number of people on the extra board, because that’s where I’d rather be instead of any of the open bid slots.

Alright, Estes and Saia drivers (and any other LTL folks that would like to chime in), tell me why I should/should not apply to your company ... Eyeballing some openings 45 miles away from me in Scranton PA. Strongly prefer night linehaul but am getting to the point of desperation and will almost take anything that'll keep me in work. I can't keep taking home $550/week for much longer. Current gig is painting me into a corner, and if I go back to driving I go to dead last on a 65-driver board that averages 40 runs/day... positional/shift seniority rather than tenure with company is the name of that game. So, I figure if I'm starting at the bottom yet again I might as well change the scenery while I'm at it.

I've got 13 years driving, one not-my-fault accident (was rear-ended), doubles/tanker/LCV, manual transmissions of any stripe, and am competent in metro areas (don't like 'em, but who does?). No hazmat yet, but I'm testing soon. Give me some boots on the ground feedback, I trust recruiters about as far as I can throw a Sherman tank.

Does ABF run up in your turf? In South East PA the ABF guys were in the same local as me (ups) and they all seemed pretty happy over there and make some #### good money. I know at least in South East PA they were the only ones that had guys making almost as much as us. I don't work for them so it's not first hand experience but I have been to their union meetings when I was a shop steward just to see how they did things on their end and the guys were overall very happy and paid very well. I hope maybe this helps a lil. The only reason I can say you are screwed is because Scranton......hills and snow.....man I don't miss that. Stay safe up there, keep up that awesome record driving a commercial vehicle and give ABF a call. @JPenn
