The treasurer in our local was a package car driver before getting voted in and when that happens you stay on your company seniority list. His seniority date was some time in 1976 lol.

Usually the uniform gets you treated better. Sometimes it is those jealous of what you got and they show their a@@. I was sitting in a Loves Arby’s one night years ago eating my meal and minding my own business. A fellow trucker who I had never seen prior, with an axe to grind came right up to me and said “I work twice as hard as you and make half as much”. I said “who’s F@@@ing fault is that, yours or mine”. He thought about it for a minute and left without saying a word. I have always strived to be one of the best at what ever it is I do and I expect to be payed the best. Some people do not feel they are worthy of top pay and probably won’t do what it takes to get it. This may sound arrogant to some, but you usually only get what you demand and often deserve.

Exactly! If it was so easy everyone would have done it. It's really easy for people so sit there and ##### but then do nothing because they wanna wear their flip flops pulling a reefer. My biggest argument for the uniform is I tell people you are stuck in the cage at the receiver while they let me in the office to use the bathroom lol. That says a lot right there. I work for Coke now so I wear uniform pants, boots, nice red polo shirt and I shower and shave. I'm running linehaul all over Florida now and when I wanna take a break I can pull into a parking lot anywhere I want like a Walmart without getting hassled because I'm clean and they know I'm not gonna #### in their parking lot lol. Outward appearance has a lot to do with how people treat you yet these otr still say #### that I ain't dressing up yet cry when they can't use the bathroom at a shipper or can't park here or people just look down on them in general.

That's true for the most part, when I pick up loads and stuff I mean I still have to play by there rules, but they seem to treat me different, I'll say. We have to wear uniforms, but are trucks are usually pretty clean and shiny and usually I don't get much if any trouble from any shippers.

Years ago the trucks used to get washed every day, image was everything. Then it got to the point the center managers would have to cut a trip a day if they wanted to wash the trucks to make the numbers work......that the kind of #### right there that's the reason why they can't hold on to guys anymore.

I would feel bad for a guy like that, but then again I have been grooming myself for an elite job since I got into the industry. By the time I came to UPS, I had 12 years experience with zero accidents, zero incidents, and zero tickets. Fly past me in a blizzard. Make some snide comments on the CB. I'll still be here at the end of the winter. You might be, too, but I like my odds a lot better. I'll survive because of myself. You'll survive in spite of yourself.

My slipseat partner complained to the linehaul supervisor on Friday that I haven't been cleaning the truck. The floor is filthy with grit and gravel, the windows and mirrors are crusty and mostly useless, and the windshield has
an impressive bug collection. He's completely correct, the truck is filthy and I haven't even shown it a paper towel.

I've been driving extra trucks for the past two weeks. I was having to switch trucks in the middle of my shift every day, so I just quit driving my assigned truck and take an extra instead. Which means the dirty, filthy driver he complained to the boss about was...himself. I wish I could have been there for that conversation to savor the irony.

So I had this one customer and I don't even remember what their business was. But I had one of those giant wheels for them with some kind of coiled up plastic. I am sure you guys seen them, it's a massive tall metal frame wheel that almost touches the trailer ceiling and is about 4 feet wide. It's not solid metal, but it has a inner ring and then a large outer ring that is held in place by spokes. Almost like a bicycle wheel. It weighed a good 700+ lbs. You could roll it around, but it was loaded sideways and secured with load bars.

Anyway, I get to this stop and some older lady comes out. Stereotypical "I got 10 years till I retire and only answer phones and write #### on paper calenders" lady. Flip flops, capris shorts, some wavy white shirt, and oversized glasses. She looked like she was heading to the beach after work.

I backed up to their dock and she met me at the door of my trailer. I got one pallet and this big wheel for you. "Oh shoot, the boys just left to go fishing. I will help however I can". To my surprise she ran the forklift and pulled the pallet. We then got to the wheel. I was carefully lowering the load bars. I was disgruntled because I left my work gloves in my car and I was certain my tetanus shots are behind as I dealt with this rusty old wheel. Yeah, I am weird about touching dirty stuff with my bare hands. I am probably not in the right industry and whatever. You can laugh at me all you want.

So anyway, I was probing and fondling this wheel trying to find a spot that won't cut up my hands and here comes the frail old lady.

    Lemme give ya a hand
    - No, I got this
    Move aside
    - No seriously, this weighs in excess of 600 pou.....

She grabs a hold of the wheel and goes at it putting all 115 lbs of her body weight into it. She is manhandling this thing as she turns the wheel into place.

I am standing there going "ma'am, stop, please, you are going to hurt yourse..."

All I hear is "step aside, I am pushing this off your trailer"

    Holy crap lady!!!!

Sure enough, there comes the wheel, rolling down with this old lady behind it pushing it into her warehouse.

As I turned in my mancard with her copy of the delivery receipt, I learned a valuable lesson. And that is to never judge a book by its cover.

He can, I left my cleaning stuff in there. He just won't because I usually take care of it. It just took him that long to notice, I guess.
