Merry Christmas y'all. Hope everyone got some time in with the family! Getting done at 11 last night was perfect, got to do the Santa thing as soon as I got home because everyone was in bed. I'm starting a petition. While the milk and Oreos were great we need to start telling kids that Santa would rather have chicken wings and beer.

A while back I was sweating what the senior yard guy was saying and positions he was was putting me in. I want to thank everyone that said i was doing good because tonight I realized I was. I have come to realize the senior yard guy never has been on the road and is just milking this for all it is worth. I had to blindside a 53 in a hole between two other trailers tonight (actually 5 in the same hole so they could get the bulk out) and my boss just happened to be in the yard and he said "like a glove...that's why I gave you this job". Keep in mind I'm here because most of my management team is also retired UPS... it's comfortable....I know how to deal with them and they know how to deal with me. All the "stupid" training I went thru over the years.... All the pressure to be efficient in less than ideal situations...it all makes sense now. There are a ton of bad ### drivers at every company I'm sure and I know for a fact there are a ton of garbage drivers at all of them too but tonight I felt all of those stupid training videos and classes kicking in...I #####ed and cried the whole time I had to do them but looking back at them now....they are good stuff. We had a trailer pulled by Mr senior on a red light with a girl on a jack on the plate. Thankfully nobody got hurt but that could have ended badly...she dove of the jack onto the floor and the plate dropped so it was real ....now Mr efficient safety ups guy who don't know how things work here......yeah....get on my level.....I never almost killed someone.
Sorry for the long rant and sorry/not sorry for tooting my own horn but ...... Beep beep mother ####er lol. All that stupid training actually works.Banker, LtlAnonymous, D.Tibbitt and 9 others Thank this. -
@FlaSwampRat for all the “stupid” training that these companies make us do, if it saves one person from being killed or seriously injured even just once, it was worth it. #### good post to start a Friday with.

This might sound petty, but I am sure some of you guys are familiar with piggybacking through a access controlled gate? You stop at a gate, ring their camera doorbell, give the gate guard all your information, then they pop open the gate and you roll through. Piggybacking would be someone directly behind you just staying on your back bumper and rolling in together without checking in.
I got my ### reamed the other day by a co-worker cause he just happened to be sitting a few hundred feet away and watched me follow SEFL through the gate. Something along the lines of getting banned from going there and losing the account. The gate takes 60 seconds to open/close so it seems idiotic to let one guy in, wait for the door to close and then deal with the hassle of talking to some half deaf person through a tiny speaker and having to shout out your name and company four times. And God forbid, there are five trucks ahead of you, it could take 15 minutes to get through the gate to do a 10 minute trailer swap.
We are one of four LTL companies that are in and out of there 6 times a day doing trailer swaps. I highly doubt we would lose that account since we are the primary carrier that services certain areas and they enjoy our rates.
Again, I am probably being petty, but does anyone have similar experience?Gearjammin' Penguin, Bob Dobalina, misterG and 3 others Thank this. -
